Off to the continent in August and returning via Stena Lines on the Hook of Holland to Harwich ferry. It's our first time abroad with the dog so want to make sure we don't come a cropper with the tapeworm treatment. The government website says: The treatment must have been given no less than 24 hours and no more than 120 hours (5 days) before you arrive" whereas the advice of Stena Lines is that: "Dogs must undergo a tapeworm treatment not less than 24 - 120 hours prior to check-in for travel to the UK from Continental Europe".

Since there's around twelve hour period between check in at Hook of Holland and disembarkation at Harwich it could be critical whether the administration period ends when we check-in in Holland or when we arrive the UK. Have anyone ever fallen foul of misinterpreting the timings or am I worrying about nothing?

It prior to check in, it must be done the day before travel (24hrs) or you have up to five days(120hrs) to get the dog wormed before boarding ferry so not a problem but check vets on this site some of the Dutch vets we have used have charged us E45 for signing the passport and we even provided the worming tablets!

I'd do the worming no sooner than 24 hours before you check in - you then have 5 days after that in which to travel.

Thanks for the advice. Our ferry back to the UK is on a Monday evening so we're going to have to treat the dog on the previous Thursday or Friday as I guess we're unlikely to find a vet that's open on Saturday or Sunday, and Monday will be too late. We'll be in Germany then, so it will have to be a German vet.

We always use Christian Marks when we are in Germany, he speaks good English. 😁 Bob.

Thanks bobandjanie for the recommendation. We expect to be a little further north than that, around Bremerhaven, so I’ll search one out on Google maps and email them next week - do you find an appointment is necessary or can you just turn up?
