Just had a price for a full service and timing belt change from ford and slater.
£1,386.98 Wow seems very steep to me is this the normal sort of cost for this sort of work.

Am I right in presuming its a Ford base vehicle?
If its a Peugeot/ Citroen or Fiat, PM me your reg number and I will get you a fixed cost from our relevant dealerships.....

Si

Will depend on time and mileage for the service schedule in addition to the belt etc. replacement.
Is brake fluid due for replacement? Rear brake strip and service etc.
Plus other out of sequence service requirements, Belt and MOT is not a service so not possible to comment on additional requirement.
Certainly would require a list of scheduled service items at the age and mileage of your vehicle, plus and remedial work to be completed to make a judgment.

A recent timing belt & water pump change on one of our cars = £350.00 inclusive of parts & labour.

The mileage is 30000 it is a 64 plate and the brake fluid was done on last full service 2 years ago
looking for standard main service for van plus timing belt.

Given no extras or remedial work require £1000 for genuine parts and coolant seems about the correct area to be looking for in my view

Just asking about the belt cost now. If yours hasn't been done before its overdue by a year tut tut! I think from memory with the Fiat, its 4 year inspection and change every 5 years.
With regards to the servicing. If its a major service it would be £349.

Sounds excessive to me at £1,386.98, given that the genuine Fiat timing belt kit is £360 plus VAT, you’ve only got to add fluids, filters and the odd gasket. Plus labour of course, which is where the most money can be made.

Well I hope they are right on 8 years as I have about 200 bills from my workshop for timing belts on Fiats we have had on the forecourt!
If it is 8 years (Which it isnt) I will be due a massive refund from my workshop!

Either way, we inspect if 4 years and replace if needed. If the van is 5 years old or coming up to it or older and we have no paperwork to show the belt being done, we will replace it.

Reading this thread it would be cheaper for me to drive to Somerset than have it done local👍🏼

just thinking the same thing waiting to see what Simon says about belt cost

How much has Tam Northernraider paid today...?
Quote is £350 for cambelt kit replacement , if waterpump was gettting done then another £100 but as the pump is not belt driven on this model I'm not changing it just now. Its only done 23000 miles since last belt change 5 years ago.

Its in getting done now

Also quoted for brake fluid change £25

And im having a clutch master cylinder replaced too which I supplied a genuine fiat one so will only be charged fitting.

That sounds mental ....what year of van is that on ?

I had mine done when I bought our van April 1019 Webbs Reading. They got it done for £671.00 inc vat. That included cam belt, water pump, antifreeze and mot test.

I assume they would have had to change the oil in the process?? I just noticed that when looking at the bill there was no oil charged for?? They would have had to change the oil wouldn't they??

No why would you think that?

Don't need to change oil doing a cambelt change.. cambelt is on outside oil is inside

Right to sum up
Had one price of a main dealer for over £1,300
Another main dealer has told me i do not need a belt until 8 years old ( which i now no is wrong)
Just had a price of a smaller garage cbcars in leicester as follows mot £45 full service £180 belt change £260 all + vat excluding water pump not sure why seems very cheep compared to others

Bugger, I've only done 4,000 miles since we got the van, The last time the oil was probably changed was by brownhills back in Jan 2017 on a major service 5,000 miles ago by the previous owner. I bet my mates in reading didn't change it, will it have deteriorated in that period of time on those miles.?

Thanks for the reply by the way (y)
