Just a reminder to all to check the sidewalls of your tyres after winter, especially if the van hasn't been used much.

Checked the tread on mine at the weekend - fronts down to 3mm, do I change them now or give it a bit longer? Mind made up when I noticed the sidewalls were starting to crack - 2012 dated tyres.

2 new Michelins put on today, oddly one of them is missing it's date marking - must have been missed at the factory - although I haven't crawled under the van to check t'other side! Not too fussed, they came from a high volume source, other one is marked late 2018.

Just checked the rears on my ride on mower after inflating them..... More cracks than a lion tamers whip and they're only dated 2005..
Do you think I'll be safe???

7mph.....ok...but that's about flat out
And why do they fit em with headlamps? Buggered if I'm cutting grass in the dark.

Only had a litre..... Even took the wheels off and swirled it round the sidewalls with 20psi...they run at 10psi.
Buggers still go down in a day.
100 odd quid a pair... Going to stuff em with straw.

Normally date marking are on the inside wall, don't ask why tyre fitters always seem to fit them way round, not got a clue.
Won't be buying Michelin's when mine wear out, wear rate is very high on them.

Alas I don't get to do enough miles for it to make much difference! Still, only another 8 years before I can't afford to retire early..... ;)

Michelin's on mine are down to 4mm on the front and 4.5mm on the back, less than 2 years and only 17,000 miles.

My van has Vancos and they are just starting to show tread wear and it is three years now since it was new, they are wearing very well . not at 26000 miles and not showing much wear at all. should be good for about 65000 at least. How many miles do yours do, for a set?

Conti Vanco Camper's appear to have a much lower wear rate than Michelin, our first van had Conti's still over 4.5mm on the front at 30,000.

I put gunge into my ride on mowers tyres also, but it was a bu-ger to get them balanced.

As I bought my Peugeot Boxer as a van it obviously came with commercial van tyres in this case Bridgestone, I replaced them all last year as they were 6 years old but probably could have kept them on as they had no cracks at all and the rears still had 7mm of tread after 30000 miles.

The rears on my van seem to last forever, but the fronts wear quite quickly - with a big luton overcab my van is heavy on the front axle, plus front wheel drive of course. With new ones going on the rear and a swop back to front, the tyres are lasting about 6-7 years which I'm okay with.

My van does stand a lot, alas. But when I eventually retire and the kids are old enough to fend for themselves...…...if that day ever comes!

Assuming tyres all come out of the one mould... ...that would mean that the 2 new tyres are the same.

Usually they are fitted so the rotation arrows are the direction the front wheels generally turn, which is the same for the left and right sides.

This means that both tyres will be the same way around, so if the date marking is only on one side of the tyres it will be on the outside of one and the inside of the other. I.e. both facing left or both facing right.

That would be true if the tyres were directional, but not all are - these Michelins aren't, there is no direction arrow, you can fit them either way round.

I suspect that Lenny's right and the date code is on one side only. When I'm under the van one day for something else I'll check.

Yes it will be on one side of the tyre only.
All tyres will a) come from the same mould and b) have a date code.
