For a number of years back in the 1980's, I used to take multiple coach loads of students belonging to the Kings College ( London) Ski Club to their chalet/hostel in Les Brevieres all through the season. We went to Tignes, staying in a hotel at Les Brevieres, last year.
We didn't see any signs of an aire at any of the Tignes villages on our travels.
To be honest, we didn't find Tignes very appealing. Very barren and poorly linked across the valleys compared with other areas.
That ski pass price isn't that bad. It's on par these days to be honest.
What a small world. For a number of years back in the 1980's, I used to take multiple coach loads of students belonging to the Kings College ( London) Ski Club to their chalet/hostel in Les Brevieres all through the season.
There was plenty of space to park 2 full sized coaches in their carpark.
Might be worth seeing if they still have a hostel there?![]()
All my research suggests that Tignes in general prohibits motorhomes during the ski season. What a small world.
A group of those students (medical) later borrowed money off their parents and bought the Chalet Chardon in Les Brevieres and set up Ski Direct Control out of Bodmin. In one European recession they bought loads of bankrupt hotels across the Alps. Expanded through Les Brevieres offering different styles of ski holiday (self catering apartments, full board catered chalets) over the initial bunk house Chalet Chardon.
Did an early trip via 'school bus', thereafter self drive. Used to fax Chris and ask availability when I knew I was in the area. One time was in an apartment over the road from Chardon, it snowed heavily so decided to get out early. Went into Chardon, hung keys up then snowed up the main door. A Welsh guy who was manager never forgave me!!
In those early days there was a day at St Foy, that was unknown then, like your own private ski resort with only a handful of skiers. The someone wrote an article for a Sunday supplement and its now overrun.
This is Chalet Chardon today: https://www.tignes-spirit.com/flats/details/158
There has been an aire at Val Claret for eons, in the large car park to the right as you face Grande Motte.

It appears post Covid the various Aires are now no overnighting. ShameAll my research suggests that Tignes in general prohibits motorhomes during the ski season.
If anyone has managed to stay, I'm all ears.
