So,

Back in the UK to avoid the Spanish MOZZIES.

Out walking in Derbyshire, I gained a couple of bites. As I sat outside the pub, lifted my hand to find a Tiger Mosquito feeding on the side of my hand.

I now want rip my hand off, having spent all night scratching the itch on my hands and arms.

You have been warned!

I hate mosquitoes and I’m sure they hate me no matter what I use they still bite me

I've bought some cream from the chemist to stop me scratching at the bites. It drives me mad otherwise. Partner doesn't apply it and scratches like mad which could be dangerous if they get infected

Back of a hot spoon on bite helps with the itching!

Obviously not hot enough to burn.

We use Eurax to stop scratching, works a treat.

I suffer badly from any sort of bites, they get very sore and large, a single bite from a garden midge can mean an area the size of a smilie sticker can become red, swollen, itchy and very painful. Even taking the strongest anti-histamines you can buy over the counter doesn't help so I mentioned it to my doctor and he now prescribes me stronger ones called Fexofenadine which whilst not perfect are certainly better than the others.

We use a BiteAway, only thing I´ve ever found that stops the itching from Tiger Mossie bites almost instantly and permanently. Expensive but worth every penny. (Can´t see the photo from SMB, only a grey rectangle, so sorry if duplicated post!).

we use "Afterbite" and "Fenistil", Fenistil is available as a cream or gel, both are easily available on the internet, and in chemists, if they stock them, we get ours in Germany, readily available through Amazon

Letter in the Telegraph today advocates blasting the bite with hot air from the hairdryer. Says it works for him every time!

I don't think anyoe's going to believe me but I'll just put this out there:

One's diet can influence your attractiveness to bites of all insects from ticks, fleas and mozzies. If you go for a meat free Ketogenic diet there's very little attractive wafting off you for the insects to be attacted to.

Must be more to it than that ... me and hubby eat the same stuff and they very, very rarely touch him ... it's a blessing really 'cause if he does get a bite, no matter how small it is, you'd think he was dying! ::bigsmile:

There are always a number of factors for most things, diet is but one!
Changing diet to help is however easier then changing one's DNA :)

Also tending toward that type of diet has some side benefits too, not just being cheaper at Christmas LOL

No way could I give up my bacon butties etc ... and as for hubby's lovely roast beef dinners ... no chance!!!!

I use Canesten Cream, the red one not the green. available from any Chemist about 6-7 quid

what do you use?

Tequila - it does not stop the itching but you don't care anymore:D

I also have zapper, like a tennis bat that you recharge with usb, best not used with the tequila.

7 or 8 types of mossy on the isle of sheppy where we live always buy mossy sprays in France

I get very bad reactions to mossy bites ( and I’m vegetarian) I have a Bite Away, that works well, but putting lavender oil on the bite, as soon as it appears, works just as well if not better in most cases.

If you are in a bad mosquito area then suck on a clove of garlic and put a clove between your feet and socks, let it seep into your skin.
I’ve never eaten meat in my life and I get a very bad reaction to bites.
I’m allergic to garlic
:(

I use saliva to ease the sting. But fortunately, we have very few mozzies out here. It's too dry for them.

As noted above it will be the sugars they are after, it's quite possible to have a ketogenic diet with meat. Generally I didn't get bitten much but after reducing refined sugars and carbs I don't really get bitten at all and the odd rare bite is smaller.

Reduce sugar!!!!! :Eeek: Are you trying to take away my only vice! I don't think I could live without my Morrisons doughnut fix every now and then! :crying:
