After suffering too much in the heat last weekend I've decided I need a blocker to attach to my wind out awning / canopy (Thule Omnistor).

Question is, do I get the View Blocker, or the Sun Blocker?

The View one is solid vinyl, much like the awning itself, whereas the Sun one is more of a mesh fabric. So while probably lighter, my fear is that it will create some mild shade but still let the heat through?

Sun:

View:

I'll be getting the 3.8m one and I need to fold it up, not roll it up (I won't get 3.8m roll in the van).

Does anyone have any experience of either?

Does it block all of the heat though?

Could my dog and I sit there in comfort, or would we still feel the heat from the sun?

I would have thought a screen would be better. Look at the Lillypad ones they come right down to the ground and fold up small.

I have the Kampa Sunscreen, it is a mesh type material and blocks all the sun which has been a god send the last few days away.

We have the fiamma mesh one blocks the sun but still allows a breeze through. Also lets the rain through to a small extent.

There is a Lillypad one with a membrane which easily turns it in a view blocker and also keeps the rain out so you get the best of both worlds.
Folds up into a neat small bag.

We have the Kampa and very pleased with the quality and value for money. Keeps most of the direct sun off and allows the breeze through. Half the price of the other brands.

Sunblocker is the best as it lets the breeze through. Don't need to worry about the length as it folds up. We initially tried a 5 m version which was the size of the canopy but far too long so I would have thought a 3.8 or 4m ish would be fine.

We use a Lilypad Windblocker which is very effective at providing shade without losing the view, especially useful in Morocco. Without using the "ends" it seems to encourage a through breeze.
It also rolls up incredibly small - I've had to put it in a conspicuous bag so I can find it again!

Great stuff, thanks everyone!!

We have that model. Used over the last few days as a sun blocker it has struggled to keep the heat out - but then anything that isn't reflective would be the same. As a wind blocker it is superb and it's best feature IMO is that it can be simply stuffed into a bag - no folding or rolling.

We have used the thule sunblocker last fortnight in south of France
Great shade lets breeze in also extra support for awning in strong winds we had.

The Sun Blocker as others have said will provide some shade and allow breeze to come through, the View blocker will stop the breeze and as such the air temperature could be higher than with the Sun Blocker

I’ve got the sun blocker
Creates dappled shade without blocking the view or natural breeze

Could we ask what size sun blocker you've got in relation to your awning size? Weve got the Thule 5m (6900) awning on our N&B and were thinking of getting the 4.9m sunblocker.

Thanks

Hi Oscar
I bought a Thule Sunblocker last year in Germany when it was very hot.
Our Prostor awning is 5m. I got the 3.8m sunblocker. It folds up nice and small.
Good well made product.
Peter.

we bought a mesh type one from cannock caravans, extremely pleased with it, cant find the link right now, it was £40 !

I have Sunblocker but have found that the relief in direct sun is not good, and it does restrict light breeze air. I saw a solution last year and created my own. It uses camaflouge material mounted on a net. See my setup as yet to be deployed outdoors!

Do all the above recommendations, i.e. Lillypad and Kampa fit the Thule Omnistore awning, and are they of a similar quality?
Thanks for the info!
