Hi funsters, thinking about a Thule e bike tow bar mounted rack. Not sure how secure the actual rack is on the tow bar re theft.Would it be difficult for a thief if to remove it?

Hi we have a witter tow ball bike rack much the same as a Thule rack. it seems pretty secure when fitted as it is locked on to the ball you could always fit more cable locks as an added precaution but as you know if some low life wants it there going to have it all we can do is make it difficult for them.

I can recommend the Thule, but make sure you get the one with the heavier capacity as e-bikes generally heavier
(then keep eye on payload)

the bikes lock to the rack and the rack locks to the bar using one key
A thief armed with ponwer tools and a genny will be able to cut anything off, but the noise and firework dusplay would be incredible, the deterrent in 99.9% would be too great IMO

Good product

Just for added piece of mind, once I've parked up somewhere in addition to the relatively simple locks of the Thule carrier I secure the bike to the carrier with the lock I'd use when out and about, and run a further cable from the chassis to the carrier. For belt and braces I use the Vanbitz accessory alarm cable loop linked to van's Strikeback alarm. Oh and I throw a cover over the bike so it's less easy for any casual passer by to work out what it is. Never leave the battery on the bike, that goes in the van.

Moored in Utrecht a couple of years ago I watched 2 council workers remove 50 or so bikes that were 'secured' to railings with s combination of bolt croppers and battery powered angle grinder. Didn't take an hour and they made little noise.

Aldi or Lidl have rechargeable angle grinders for E25 atm\soon. Can't remember whether that was Spain or Portugal ..

I have a Thule
The rack locks to the ball
The bikes lock to the rack

I always add a 3m cable lock that goes round the bumper, the rack and all the bikes.
I also tend to turn the handlebars 90 degrees, which means that without an allan key no one is going to be riding the bike away from the theft.

That said, a dertimed thief will have off the cable and locks in seconds with a grinder.
Or a little more time to unbolt the towball and bumper and take away the entire unit.

Thanks everyone for taking the time and trouble to reply.
