Rookie error. Only the second time we used the awning and the skies opened up in the middle of the night(no wind just very heavy downfall). One arm fell off and we had to unbolt the other arm. The end of the arms that bolt into the motorhome section can be fitted back on but the other end of both arms has a broken small casting that fits into the awning part that extends and pushes the awning out. See third Photo. There are other problems such as the middle stretcher is bent but I think this is easily replaced and a couple of tears plus some plastic bits broken. Any help appreciated, thanks in anticipation. Is it fixable and where could I get the work done?

These guys will get your awning sorted. They're in Dorset.

Tier levels permitting Rose awnings in Poole are recommended. To be honest that looks a write off but better minds that mine would give more accurate advice and it may indeed be repairable.

edit - wot he said ⬆️⬆️

Probably scrap unless you do the work yourself. Suprising how quickly an hourly rate can rack up the costs. Might be worth stripping the thing down and putting the parts on Ebay.

Other advice, never leave your awning out unless you are in a position to put it away quickly.
I never leave mine out unattended. Saw a guy go for a walk on lovely day. Wind got up and threw it over the top. Took 6 of us to get it back then remove from van.
He was lucky it didn’t rip the side out.

Thank you for the advice. Rose awnings sound like a good place to start. Unfortunatley it happened at 1am. I think that some anchor straps might help so at least if the support legs give way the awning won’t drop to the side of the MH.

Hi, I did the same thing a couple of weeks ago, a very calm day became very windy. I bought a twin repair pack for £18.22 from QualityCaravanAwnings and it was all of 5 minutes to fit yesterday. The part number is 1500602374, LH/RH spring arm connector but this was for a 4900/6200. The sales lady at the above knew exactly what I needed.

Another vote for Rose Awnings

John Rose , top man

I damaged mine and opted for a full replacement , it is a quick job to swap and might not be as expensive as you think, especially if you can sell yours for spares

good luck

Just a point, did you have the awning set up level, you should always set it with one leg lower than the other, that way water will run off at the lowest corner.

I only fitted one fitting, so I'll post a photo of the other in the morning, I'm pretty sure they are the same as yours.

Something similar happened to my daugher's van (a Dethleff blooming' big thing) - thunderstorm and a ton of rain and blammo! - there we were at 04:00 in the downpour tying things up and remarking how nice Lake Maggiore was at that time of day.

In this case my son-in-law found someone who could weld aluminium and now it's back together and hunky dory. In the same thunderstorm that did for his, ours (on a smaller Ace Siena) survived, mostly because it had one of the support legs set shorter than the other so the water didn't pool along the front edge but ran off one corner. That and double guy ropes seemed to help and I now have a rafter as well which I've yet to use but I understand helps keep things nice and tight.

Thank you for this Rob. Appreciate you taking the time to photo this. Its not the same part but you got me thinking and looking at my photo again its shows the part number 45493. The other one is 45404. Really useful as I have something to work with so I will contact QualityCaravanAwnings. I have already emailed Rose Awnings.

Thank you for the advice everybody about tension and not setting it level so the water runs off. I don’t think I will make the same mistake again (Famous last words). We were at the HillHead site in August and at a top of a hill but stood in a couple of inches of water at 1am trying to sort out the mess. No wind, just lots of water.
