The step on my recently purchased 2008 Rapido has a 'spongy' feel when extended and makes ominous creaks when you step up or down. The fixing to the chassis appears to be sound with no movement. Has anyone had a similar problem and is there a cure or do we just have to live with it?
Any advice would be appreciated.

We had a similar issue on our 2008 Knaus. The step had been fitted to the underside but not strenghened. It was starting to break the floor of the inner step away. Had it taken off and use a seperate step now. Don't miss it at all.

We had a similar problem. The cause for us was the setting on the sargent electrical control box.Is yours controlled by the motorhome key?

Short while after a gap of many years.

Does the step make a very definite clunking noise when you put it down? This is the sound of it hitting the mechanical stops - the art of setting it is to ensure it hits the stop as well as the travel limit switch to stop it - if it doesn’t actually reach the mechanical stop and hence no “clunking” noise - it’s still got very slight Travel left before being fully out - this can give rise to the spongy feeling as it’s stressing the drive gear which will eventually shear! :)

Thanks for this advice, waiting for a dry day now so I can get underneath and have a better look at what is going on.
