I can only get away Friday and sat night I fancy coastal or riverside/canal site. I am based on the coast nr Brighton don't mind a drive of up to 2.5 hours.

Any suggestions ideas please ? Many thanks in advance.

Swanage? Nice place called Ullwell Cottage Caravan park there. We've stayed there a few times.

You may want to invest in the britstops guide, sounds like you have a similar schedule to mine, only able to get away at weekends. We use that for weekend breaks all the time. There are a couple in Oxford that are really close to the river.
