For a while now, the grill refuses to stay alight after releasing the gas button. It ignites OK, but will not stay alight no matter how long we wait. I've tried all the clever tricks like banging the gas button and sticking a piece of card inside the button. Nothing helps. So I'd assumed the thermocouple needed replacing. Suddenly tonight the oven is displaying the exact same symptoms. Unlikely that both thermocouples have gone within a few weeks of each other? Or perhaps not? If we assume both thermocouples have not died at the same time, it must be the magnet contraption at the control button end? No idea what it's called.

To complicate matters one of the gas rings, which has been working fine, now lights up like a bonfire when ignited. See picture.

What is going on?

Are you able to switch over the cylinders, I wonder if it’s a feed pressure problem.

Sorry if it's a daft question but you do have propane and not butane?

We have whatever they give you at the average UK filling station. I can never remember which is which. 😏

As masman regulator?
Have you a bbq point ? you could feed in a standalone bottle and regulator to check if regulator .

But the other ring is fine. Wouldn't a duff regulator affect both rings?

Are you sure it has a themocouple, when my gill did the same I had a look and it didn't have a traditional thermocouple, I had to replace the complete grill gas valve as the gas flame safety bit was built into it, works on electric and magnets in the valve I believe.

Big yellow flames sometimes mean liquid LPG is coming through 🤔
Interesting possibility, but wouldn't it affect both rings, and the fridge? What might cause liquid LPG to come through? Faulty regulator?

Well, I can see what looks like a thermocouple positioned in the flame. Which is what you would expect.

Difficult to see in the pic but the burner does have the flame spreader plate on?
If yes try cleaning out the holes around the circumference.
If it's partially blocked it will force the same quantity of gas through the unblocked holes causing the taller, yellow flame

Looks like 80% of the Oulet holes are Blocked/Misaligned...

What bit is the flame spreader plate? I'm open to all suggestions, but the ring has been working absolutely fine till a couple of days ago. Has it suddenly got blocked or eaten the flame spreader plate? Doesn't seem likely. And the other ring is fine. ???

No idea how you can see that from my photo..... And how could it have become misaligned when it's screwed down?

So, I've cured the problem with the ring. When I took off the cover I found a load of shards of glass. Cleaned them all out painstakingly and problem solved. The ring lights normally now. No idea what that was or if I need to replace something?

This is what I cleaned out.

Yeah, reckon you are right. Not smashed by us, but obviously a very poor effort at cleaning up after the lid was smashed. All cleaned up now though. Thanks for that. I posted a separate thread on this, and others have agreed with your diagnosis.
