For my forthcoming trip I have just discovered the Thetford blue toilet additive in a T-Bag form. These should be more convenient to use rather than mailing about with bottles of fluid. There are 15, 4-5 day sachets that are just dropped into the 10Ltr tank which is just the correct measure.
I have also ordered a new toilet seal. There is a lubricant which can be used to keep this supple but in the past I was informed to cut costs by using olive oil. Over time this has caused a sticky/tacky residue and hasn't really prolonged the life of the rubber. Now I am being told that KY Jelly (other lubricants available) is a good thing to use to keep the rubber soft and pliable and the seal in good order. Apart from opening myself up to a torrent of sexual innuendos, can anyone share their experiences of maintaining their toilet parts.

A touch of silicone spray does the valve rubber.
I dont use Thetford blue in any form, it stinks and is banned in many places as it damages septic tanks. I only use bio wash liquid or tablets, better smell, keeps the cassette clean and cheaper too.

If you have a link I'd like to give that a pop. I'm open to anything that's good for the environment and does the job just as well.

Not very environmently friendly.

What is the difference between Aqua Kem Blue (AKB) and Aqua Kem Green (AKG)? The purpose of both additives is the same, but the Aqua Kem Green is more environmentally conscious. Aqua Kem Green is a toilet fluid with biological action and can be safely emptied into a septic tank (Test ISO 11734).

Just look for Bio laundry liquid in any supermarket. We tend to use Lidl's Formil, but just make sure you get the Bio version. You will need to first clean out the cassette several time to get rid of all the residue of the Thetford products, otherwise the enzymes in the bio will be killed.

40 toilet treatment for £11 is what we use.
Much prefer the smell of blue. But I’m odd like that.

I need to get a grip on this bio/eco stuff. Maybe it's my ignorance or maybe we rely too much on chemical companies, but why is this not pushed more? I'll certainly do my bit from now on.

You could fit a SOG to your loo setup and then normally you can do away with using any additives in your cassette. (y)

Hmmm. My uncle had this on his Motorhouse and something went wrong with it. Not being a too technical problem it was sorted quickly but if this was a "middle of the night" job it wouldn't have been too pleasant. The less tech the better. Less to go wrong

A Sog is pretty much just an extractor fan and a filter to remove the pong, so interested in what went so drastically wrong to cause a "middle of the night" job with your uncle.

Don’t forget these as well, excellent for skid free stains and been using them for years 👍🏻

Happy Bowl for happy bowels? Many years ago I used something like this in a filthy campsite toilet in the Dordogne, it was like a sheet of greaseproof paper with a hole in the middle. I tried to flush it down with obvious consequences. They had to get the professionals in. I moved on! In my defense, it needed a good clean!

The fan packed in so it didnt do its job. Needless to say, had it been needed for number 2's it could've been quite pongy. I don't recall too well but I thing the extractor was on the external access door. Having said that, I couldn't swear to it.

If the fan goes just pull extractor fan hose of and replace with the cap back to normal toilet also I replace the cap except when empty when travelling.

Lidl bio sachets and give the toilet bowl a good wax polish 👍

We used to use Thetford blue but when taking over our new (to us) MH I did as others have suggested and rinsed the cassette really really really thoroughly to remove traces of the blue that the previous owner had used, then made the switch to Elsan Organic (green) liquid. It has been utterly amazing. Zero bad smell, ever.

We do top it up every so often with the bio laundry tabs, which others have also suggested. That also works well. However, the key is to make sure there’s no poison left in the cassette to kill off the enzymes in the organic stuff.

I endorse that, but will just add that on the Continent they do not use the word BIO. One has to look in the ingredients for the word 'Enzyme'(or near equivalent in other languages) Most products are this, so not many searches needed.

We use the sachets rather than the liquid, bit more expensive, but I pop one into my pocket to drop in the cassette after rinsing. never used anything else in 11 years.
