Any ideas?

Flashing red light. Cassette is in place, or removed. Fan suddenly started of own volition and won't stop. Water also pumping stuck on even if cassette removed.

Yes a toilet thread :(

Not full. But fan and pump running full even without cassette. Only way to stop is to pull all fuses.

Have pulled out the switching panel and disconnected that for now. At least that stopped fan and pump.

Is it a simple case of a switch not closing, possibly stuck in the open (on) position?

PCB fault?
Possibly.

In cold light of morning have reconnected PCB controlling switch. Flashing red has gone, detecting cassette half full correctly but fan and pump won't run.

There was a tiny amount of moisture in one of the connectors to the PCB so suspect the mastic seal against wall had failed in turn the electrics may be screwed.

To confirm this was an issue with the circuit controller PCB.

My van has the Thetford C263S toilet. This is fitted with the extract fan thingy that pulls air through the cassette out under the van through the filter. The control switch / light panel is mounted in the sidewall by the toilet. It can get wet with the shower use. Mastic seal to the panel failed, pcb got damp. Replacement has resolved.

Note there are cheap and costly pcbs. This was the costly version adding the stuff for the fan connections. I hope there isn't a next time but if so I'll fit a basic switch for thr fan disconnecting from the toilet system. It only needs to be on when the flap is.
