Thetford grill cutting out (1 Viewer)

Advice please. The Thetford grill in my van has suddenly started cutting out before the tasty morsels I am cooking have been done to a turn. Bacon it can cope with but nice juicy sausages seem to cause it a problem nowadays as it cuts out before they are fully cooked. The flame does continue to burn if I keep the gas control nob pressed in (as you would when starting it up).

Can anyone suggest a cure as vegetarianism does not really appeal as a permanent solution.

Based on having to hold knob...
It sounds like the thermo couple is on its way out...
Usually not expensive.. and in a domestic scenario not difficult to replace....

If you are ok about "fixing stuff"
My guess would be your instruction / installation manual.... will be your friend along with Google and YouTube..

I dont know how old it is but I think a lot of Thetford ovens/grills do that.

A thermocouple was faulty on my hob, so I set about removing it, decided to try and light the burner after I pulled the electric connecters off and reconnected, the burner stayed alight. Job done.

Out of interest does the whole grill gas burner light up? Mine is in thirds with first and third third (!) only with flames, the middle third has jets etc but they just glow in comparison.

Hello Happy1,

Can't say that I can remember what it looks like! I always thought it was all one - a central funnel which dispenses gas to both sides with it all lighting up fairly evenly across its spread. It stays evenly lit until it cuts out and, when I relight and hold the button in it continues to burn brightly.

Ta, thought mine was a bit odd,one more thing to add to list of issues with dealer, funny how they are less interested now I've taken delivery!?!?!?

Happy1, I notice you are in Wales - do you mind naming your dealer - is it in the Carmarthen area?

No went to Davan in Weston as they have a full workshop facility to sort problems!?
