Our van is only 9 month old.

The red cassette full light is now on when ever the cassette is inserted, but goes out when it is removed. I assume the light is a activated by a simple weight switch in the base.

I’ve searched the forum to no avail. Before I spend time investigating the fault, has anyone had the same before?

Thanks

Robin

Take the top off the cassette and free the float, at the back of the cassette.

Empty the cassette first :whistle::whistle:

I like watching some of the French cassette emptiers.
They treat it like an Olympic Sport with their vigorous too & fro action causing the level float to sticking the full position:whistle:

Well I have been giving our cassette a good shake for 10 years and never had a problem.

I wonder whether not shaking might cause it to stick and not float - I would not like the consequences of that, although we use visual inspection to estimate when we need to change, and we have two cassettes.

The Mark One ocular device, developed and enhanced over millennia, is by far the most reliable tool for letting you know when to empty the cassette.

Took the float out of mine when I jet washed the inside, empty it every day when we use the van so no need for it.

I should think the red light will be on after nine months it will be full. :D2

Float might be stuck down. Dried loo paper on the float / sensor is a prime culprit.

I take the slider off (put it somewhere safe where it won't fall / be knocked into the disposal point) and open the hatch when cleaning out, that way I can make sure I rinse around the float mechanism and also check for difficult to budge lodgers.

Exactly what I do too. I like to be 100% sure that EVERYTHING is out. The shake technique ensures this. I don't leave the disposal point until I have what looks like drinkable water coming out of the cassette. Means for me once its back in and re-prepped with water and blue (yes I know the arguments about blue and the environment now) I can happily leave it for weeks and no dodgy bacteria or smells will build up.

Yep, I put a new bio capsule in if we will be using the van within a month or two or diluted zoflora if not. :)

I don't like the smell of the blue/green/pink additives which is why we don't use them.

Thanks all - and for the humorous replies.

All now fixed. Simple float issue - was stuck with, er, floaters.

Why is it we eat the same food, drink the same wine as the woman, there turds float ours sink like lead, our farts stink, there's don't smell (so they claim).:)

Although this YouTube video deals with the C250 cassette, it is quite informative in explaining how the Reed switch, magnet etc work in displaying the red light.

Out of all my vans and caravans I don't ever think I've seen that light come on ...even after 4 or 5 days. I've just always noticed when opening valve that it's near the top and won't risk overflowing it.

Can’t the level of waste be seen with the flap open ?

When the red-light comes on it is full to the top anyway, you just need to look as it comes up unless there is no light in the toilet area.
