Thetford cassette problem

I have a Thetford C2 and the trap door slides open perfectly when out of the motorhome. Yet when slid in it now refuses to fully open, which is causing huge problems. It opens about 80%, leaving s small “shelf” which can stop everything going down.

The large circular plastic “turner” that opens the flap next to the toilet seat also seems to work perfectly, and I see no obvious blockage when I look into the cassette hole.

Has anyone else come across this problem?

Yippee, a toilet thread. Back to sanity (or sanitary) after getting lost in the ridiculous climate change post that is vanishing up its own bottom.

Love to help with your actual problem but not encountered it myself. I can only imagine that there is some kind of obstruction stopping the flap from retracting fully but would have thought that would be obvious.

It sounds like the crescent shaped stop that is in the cassette has broken. Take out the cassette and slide the top cover back about half way. Grip the cassette firmly and turn it anti clockwise until the arrow lines up,with the circle and lift it out. Turn it over and check the crescent shaped stop is secure. Quite often the screws break and you will have to replace the whole mechanism which costs about £45

Not sure how your slider works but on our C250 the handle on the toilet bowl sometimes sticks and does not open all the way.
Take out the cassette and lubricate the slider under the bowl with something like a silicon spray, then put the cassette back in.
Hope this helps.

Does your cassette have wheels fitted to it ? I'm sure I've read on here that if the wheels get a bit worn down, it stops the cassette locating correctly ?

It might be this little actuator that needs removing and repositioning slightly. There is one explanation on YouTube.

Just another theory, check that you do not have any compartment lids in the base of your cassette recess compartment, that have dislodged and are fouling the full engagement of the cassette within the compartment.

One of our lids detached and ended up right at the back of the recess, which occasionally fouled the cassette fully engaging into the recess, causing a similar issue to the one that you discribe.
