We have just left a THS at Gorse Farm, Blissford in the New Forest. Not a particularly large field but there seems to be one rule for the ‘favourites’ and another for the rest of us. We arrived early on Friday afternoon (the day the THS opened) and there were already 4 vans (3 motorhomes and a caravan) taking up an awful lot of space for themselves along one side. See first 3 photos below:

We were told we could park where we liked so we went for the opposite corner of the field and tucked ourselves fairly close in to the fence. Were we to be allowed the luxury of a bit of space to ourselves? Not for long .........

By contrast see ‘our’ side of the field, where we were packed in with barely the minimum 6m between vans. See next 2 photos (ours is the gold van in the corner):

BTW There was plenty of room in the middle of the field for 2 rows of vans to have been pitched. The very nice couple in the Bailey Autograph next to us weren’t impressed either. This is one THS we will not be going back to! End of rant.

Be nice to get that much space in Spain.:):) BUSBY.

If folk were told to park where they like perhaps it was the choice of those near to you to park where they did?

It would be odd to allow some folk to park where they choose and yet be prescriptive with where others parked up.

But it wasn’t their choice - both the Autograph and the Caravan were told by the stewards where they had to park.

I have no objection to the 6m rule, provided it is applied to everyone. Not let a chosen few stake large territories for themselves.

We use ths and find this sometimes happens, but usually put it down to our choice of van, but it is sometimes because the organisers are all friends and seem to stick together but must stress it's not every time and they are always value for money.
And we won't be put off using them.

Thank god for wild camping, even if it’s getting harder to find, last year had a trip with daughter and grandson
And they wanted to use traditional sites,
Let’s just say their company was lovely but if I never go on another site it will suit me fine

It sounds like the stewards weren't there when folk were told to park where they like. It would be difficult to ask those already parked up to move over.

To be honest it doesn't look tightly packed to me but then we don't stay on sites so difficult to judge. The main thing is that you got on with your neighbours. :)

I expect the stewards running the THS were getting wages in line with a bbc presenter as well . Haha

Ths are not camp sites in the normal way, they CCC sites set up in a field by district sections, so they all know one another, other club members can use them but then tend to be outside the setup.

I can't think of anything worse, being on a site where someone is telling where to go. I watched it a couple of weekends ago in Suffolk, a load of old duffers shouting and pointing. Not for me.

Good grief! What are you fussing about? You seem to have masses of space around you, it's a cheapish site, it was your choice to go there and you seem to have good neighbours who appear to have been quiet! Now, if it was a crowded field with kids running around, dogs yapping all day, BBQ smoke poisoning the air and loud music thumping day and night you might have some of my sympathy (normally in short supply!). OK, not your taste, but just move on and put it down to experience!

I'm with you Maz, no one likes to be treated differently. But those early arrivals are likely the organisers or their mates. Looks like they are saving space for other friends too. Organisers perks I suppose.

Amazing how many of you seem to miss the point. I am not complaining about the 6m rule or that we did not have enough space. What I am complaining about is the ‘elite’ few who arrive early, and grab way too much space for themselves which then apparently becomes inviolable.

The point is though , the first ones are running the meet, anyone else are only guests, not excusing them , just how it is.

Um, no. The stewards were the ones running the meet and their van does not feature in the line-up. They were further up the field where there was a hook-up point.

Yeah probably because they chose that position before the others.
