I'm thinking of visiting The Netherlands next September and wonder if anyone has any advice on locations to visit. Just 2 'mature' adults so I don't need the 'holiday park' experience. I would like to be near small towns or villages and near bike paths but I suppose everywhere in The Netherlands is on a bike path! I had a quick look at the ACSI book and notice a good few places don't have Motorhome spaces and also a few that don't allow dogs. I wonder are they common rules. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

We used ACSI to stay at a nice site last June 28th It was very quiet site and very welcoming. We were on our way home from north west Germany so not touring Holland . Great little town Doesburg and cycling straight from the site along dykes. They were grass pitches and a big part of the site the "wrong " side of the dyke and only the tops of the EHU posts could be seen above the water! We stayed on the dry side!

Have a look at this one. Although not ACSI (unless it's changed) we have stayed here several times and the pitch rates are very reasonable and the leccy is charged for what you use, so if you don't want EHU then even cheaper. It's the only site I've been on where the chemical disposal room has underfloor heating!

We visited in Oct 2015 and had a great time. First night was on the aire at Gouda, not too far from Hook of Holland, although the Rotterdam ring road in pouring rain during the rush hour required a degree of concentration. There are some closer aires eg Maasluis but they are smaller whereas Gouda is large and included EHU for €8.

We visited some nice places near the west coast before spending a few nights at Camping GaasparPlaas on the outskirts of Amsterdam: rather soul-less and crowded BUT easy access to the city.

We stocked up at Lidl and spent time at Almere Haven, a JachtHaven (marina) for €15 with EHU and wonderful showers, including a double sized one! There are loads of these and all charge similar prices, although Gorinchem, on the banks of the Rhine, was only €10. Our favourite was Lauwersoog, on the north coast, which had front tow views over the lagoon.

There were also plenty of aires, some free. We only camped on 2 "sites" : Amsterdam and GroeneHart near Oude Wettering, which was on a farm and sold homemade food including soup. We never used our ACSI card.

Amsterdam, a bit bigger than a small village but the City Camp is great with a free ferry over to the centre.

Yes Gouda is nice and the "aire" couldn't be much closer.

Last year we stopped for a week at Chaam in the South and cycle distance to the Belgian border, https://www.rcn.nl/nl/vakantieparken/nederland/brabant/rcn-de-flaasbloem

and good cycle routes,

We are booked to go in May, Stena to the Hook ... although have covered much of Holland by car years ago this will be our first trip with the motorhome.

There is a great little book we have from Vicarious Books which gives some good ideas and a rough route.

Apart from this we are also looking for more ideas and suggestions so will keep an eye on this thread.

We have stayed in Holland many times, the name of the site is missing from my brain just now but the area around Veere Arnemuiden Middleburg is a lovely area. The site is on the waterfront and the cycle tracks and villages are brill. Not too far to travel from Dunkirk either....

We are going in April for the 4th time, taking our off-road disability scooter and electric cycle. Our favourite site overlooks The Zeider Zee near Edam at a place called Strandbad. The views over the sea are wonderful and they have big sailing ships. If you go in the spring another time, do consider going to Keukenhof where the bulbs are displayed, it really is the 8th wonder of the world for colour and beauty. Have a great trip.

We visited the outdoor museum, worth at least a whole day, near Arnhem. http://www.openairmuseum.nl/ . Also the national park near Arnhem, https://www.hogeveluwe.nl/en .

Delft is nice as stated above but for quiet try Sloten, a city with a population of only 760!

I second the openairmuseum, absolutely well worth the visit, to see it all it's best to make a day of it,

As an aside and unlike France or Germany we have found that the Netherlands appear to have very few public toilets available for the public so plan ahead if you think you may be away from your van and its own loo.

We went to the Netherlands way back in 1982. Decided to visit Amsterdam...parked up ( it was Easter and bitterly cold, our children were 9 months and just 4) we ate our lunch in the car surrounded by armed police in the middle of a drug bust. True!.....then we walked to the canals via the Red Light district.:wasntme: Quite sad really all these scantily glad prostitutes gazing at our baby boy with longing in their eyes. It was an experience. We did a trip up the canals though, so something a bit more child friendly! (y) So be careful where you park.....:ROFLMAO:

There are many places you can visit. I must say that since we own our motorhome we stayed more in our own country than before. But apart from everything that has been mentioned, we like it in Den Helder. It is a camperstop from where you get the ferry to the Island of Texel. There you can cycle around the island, very nice.

We also love the more eastern parts of Holland, Twente and the Achterhoek with places to stay like Delden, De Lutte, Azewijn, around Rijssen. You can use campercontact to look at places to stay. Apart from camperstops there are also SVR campsites. These are the smaller campsites, often on farmes.

Also in the south the camperstop Marina Maastricht from where you can easily cycle to the town of Maastricht which we love very much. A lot of people like the campsite/camperstop in Valkenburg, but we have never been there.

Lots of choice!

we had a great time staying at delft last may http://www.delftsehout.co.uk/ the bus stops just outside the campsite if you want to into the town or to the train station. the cycle route is about 10 minutes to the market place. we were lucky our daughters partner was born and breed in Rotterdam so we had our own tour guide while there :) they came and collected us every day and took us out in the car. only used a quarter of a tank of diesel in 10 day from home to home :p
