The Metal Bridge Inn

We have made it to here for dinner and an overnight stay tonight , Scotland bound 2mor.(y)last time before the Scottish meets.

Guess what that means ::bigsmile:
You can walk into Scotland from there! I know the area fairly well having spent the first 25 years of my childhood around Carlisle. The father of my French teacher at secondary school used to own the pub. :)

Is the father of your French teacher at secondary school the updated version of the postillion of my aunt's bicycle that I seem to remember from my schoolboy French lessons de ma pupitre? :rolleyes:

Steve

You can walk to Scotland, but it’s not such a great walk, as you have to cross the river, then follow the motorway, on the service road to Gretna.
Not many other options, but I stand to be corrected.

Got the van back then Sandra.
You grass! Lol stewards enquiry!You had inside information 😂

Do you get a lot of traffic noise there Sandra? Seem to be quite a popular place for motorhome stopovers now.

We always faintly hear it but it’s a cracking stopover , a few wines and you hear nowt , 😂 they aren’t doing their steak offers at the moment 😩. Costing us 1 and half times as much but hey ho we’ve free parking so not complaining.

We live reasonably local Sandra, so unlikely to use the stopover but out of interest, assuming you're travelling north, do you leave the M6 at jct 44(Carlisle north) then past ASDA towards Rockcliffe then shadow the motorway, or do you go on to jct 45 for Gretna and go back down the minor road to Metal Bridge?

If the first option, it would be handy to fill up with diesel at Asda.

Stayed there Sat night. Food was lovely. Traffic and train noise but didn’t disturb us. Wish I had known about this place sooner. Great stopover after a trip to Gretna Gateway.

Stopped there before the pandemic. We both had something from the light bite menu. It was the perfect size portions for us. The normal size portion would have meant we woundnt have room for pudding. A nice pint with views over the river filled by a quiet night.

I reported to Garmin approx2 yrs ago that you cant exit where they guide you to. Worked out today that their route still hadn't changed despite updating satnav so having previously joined at Carlisle after leaving MetalBridge I decided to go my own way and leave at Carlisle Nth and fumble my way back to Metal Bridge. I am pretty good at directions and we arrived spot on.(y)
