A couple of years ago I saw a Classic Hymer 660S parked here in Silves which had the neatest dead lock system fitted inside the two parts of its "stable door" I had ever seen.

I inquired as to the make of these locks with the intention of buying two for my Hymer.

No need.

He had two "spares" in his tool box and a deal was soon completed.

After years of thinking time and following the recent success of the bathroom sink re-modelling I have decided to fit them NOW.

Yesterday I went to a magnificent, family owned hardware shop that they still have in Portugal and bought the necessary nuts and bolts and stainless steel screws from the boss Joao.

Now for the ACTION.

Woke up to a lovely sunny day...

A day designed for action.

First make space in door for the lock.

20141124_130223.jpg

Then make all the spacers so the lock sits in the correct position...

20141124_130355.jpg

Glue spacers into position...

20141124_171255.jpg

drill the necessary holes in the correct places... using Matthew when taking a rest...

20141124_145139.jpg

and before you know it, one half of the job is virtually finished...

20141124_152832.jpg

What did you lot do today?

I can't believe you are still doing things to it JJ, that's all you have been doing since the chap at Coimbra offered you a small fortune for the classic Hymer.:D
Is that when you realised it's real value. (y)

And whats this with security locks, are you worried about its safety, ;) or are you coming to Spain. :ROFLMAO: Bob.

I think that you have seriously overreacted to the arrest of the former Portuguese Prime Minister on fraud charges with this additional security for the van...;););)

I'm sure he wasn't going to target you and he's in custody now anyway...(y)(y)(y)

Can't remember ;)
Hate to say this JJ but it is normal practice to drill into the door from the edge -several holes -then chop out and slide the lock in position not forgetting to drill hole in line for the STAR key === no mess and nothing to patch up on the inside or out
Mean while it looks good on the outside ;)(y):)

Nobody likes a smarty pants, Terry!

(...and with all due respect, were you to be working on a Hymer door made with a sandwich construction of thin aluminum sheet, compressed foam and thin plywood with an alumimium formed frame, you might realise that my way was the ONLY (correct) way to retain full strength.)

I had no idea they were so flimsy. Now had you invested in a proper motorhome it would have come with a decent door and lock from the factory. "Thin aluminium sheet, compressed foam and thin ply" indeed .

Oh... so the Makems scrape up a lucky point and you start posting hey?

It's nearly time for your annual 1-0 defeat at the hands of the mighty Red and Whites but if you're nice to me and the other Funsters offering such helpful tips on DIY we might stuff Chelsea for you first. Or keep their goal difference down, best we can probably offer..

All that cholesterol is not good for you my friend. I have just finished my bran flakes. Ohhh, by the way, a proper motorhome door.
