Does anyone else scratch their heads at the design installation height of the wall mounted ovens in Motorhomes...
Is there an actual reason they stick them up so high, so much so, short ass member of the family cannot see in the thing!!
I'm actually contemplating the pitfalls of trying to move it down the cupboard space so it's more on top of the wheel arch rather than jammed up near the ceiling..
I guess the vents on the outside of the MH are going to be my downfall though as I don't want to move them. :-(

I wouldn't use one I couldn't see into. Imagine trying to lift a casserole out and spilling it over you or a loved one?
How the hell it passed safety standards I don't know, perhaps it didn't?

our fridge freezer has just failed, being part of a tec tower the whole lot needed to be changed, we have opted for a larger fridge freezer and no oven

Although we will be having some form of oven, as yet undecided other than table top, for occasional use (y)

Yes, I’ve always struggled with the height of the installed oven.

Ours is about six inches above the floor level and at 6’3” tall, I have to get down on my knees to see what’s happening in the oven.

We all have our crosses to bear.

That's what we did David, oven/grill £25 from Aldi.

Most Tectower ovens are totally useless and fitted far to near to the roof as when you try to use them they heat up anything above them including any wood or plastic trim and head cloth.

We hardly use ours but have made a detatchable heat shield to divert some of the heat.

Can't complain about the height of ours. It's beneath the hob which is OK, but why did Thetford go all trendy and set the dial in a black perspex cover in dark grey lettering, rendering the settings unreadable! :(

We wondered how we'd get on without an oven when we 'downsized'.
I am pleased to confirm that life is possible and that there are many ways of surviving without one.

I fitted two small fans behind the grill above ours.

This is a good example of why the phrase "it's all about layout" applies in three dimensions. We have a big kitchen and an oven at a conventional height but we know the layout (in 2D) wouldn't suit everyone.

What's the other phrase? "They are all a compromise." :)

Has anyone got any images of removed ovens and what not, so I can get a gander at the way the flue is attached (and whether it can be piped / ducted to the new position without alteration of the outside vent panel)

We have had TecTowers in all 3 vans, yes they are too high, but better than nothing. In the van we have now with a double floor no reason it could not have been fitted 12" lower.
Keep burning food in it lately, since having new door hinges fitted it works like an oven can't get used to it but the grill is still naff.

My mates E line Carthago the oven is another 4" higher than Hymer fit then you need a step ladder for it.

Our oven is at a sensible height under the hob and SWMBO uses it all the time. She is 'petite' (French for shortarse) and finds the height ideal. There is a vent behind but we put a vent cover on it in the winter as their is a chilly draught if the wind is in a certain direction.

Ours came out as we knew it wouldn’t be going back in, could be a nightmare to refit

The hole on top is (was) connected to a stainless flexible vent pipe, with jubilee type clip, access is only from outside and helped slightly by a sloping heat panel above the oven

Reconnecting the vent pipe must me a mare of a job with no movement and hardly any room to work

The oven is also very much attached to the fridge, there must be a way to separate them but not easy at first look

Ours is mounted on top of a 9” high drawer to make things worse

Even worse talking to another member theirs is mounted at same height as ours but over a blank panel same height as our drawer o_O

Just had my oven taken out above the tectower this weekend. Hardly ever used the oven. Going to put microwave and possibly a coffee machine in its place.

Was your oven attached to the top of the freezer & if so how was it held? The reason I ask is that my Tower is coming out for a fridge / freezer repair and it would be good to know in advance how the oven is attached.

We've got a separate but high oven. I can't reach it as I'm petite too but Joe is over 6 foot and doesn't find it a problem so I just prep the food; he sticks it in the oven, stirs if necessary, gets it out when it's ready. Being a high oven isn't a problem for me, LOL!

There is no good reason for Dometic to put an Oven at the height it does on their Tec-Tower other than convenience and style Dark premium gloss finish Fridge,Freezer,Oven all in one Tec-Tower——— wow sounds good too! Only the oven is a waist of space and if you do manage to get any decent heat out of it lucky you, but guess what? Then it melts the hinges of the Oven and they break or jam up. I had eighteen months of torment trying to get mine sorted, it went wrong from new and it was only through the kindness of a Dometic Service Technician that came some 70 miles out of his area on three occasions that I eventually got it sorted.

Of all the Dometic Service Engineers we contacted none would attend a Tec-Tower and I think this just about sums up its practicality, they are a nightmare to work on.

out of interest is your fridge freezer mounted at floor level or is the a panel underneath ?
No they've put a small cupboard below the fridge which is sort of above the wheel arch but above that by a good 8 inches

I had to fit new new hinges to the oven on our last Motorhome, which in itself isn’t a difficult job.
The trick is to keep the hinges greased with high melting point grease, obviously I didn’t find that out until the old hinges sheared off, I wondered why the door was a bit stiff.
