    Sad news about the demise of The Independent as we know it today. The one newspaper that l felt confident in its approach to news and so pleased that it tended to avoid the media circus around the luvvies and restricted itself to more important news items. I hope the new buyers don't change it?

    I always used to take The Independent when I was working (except for a brief flirtation with The Guardian when Marr was editor) but I haven't taken a daily paper at all since retiring. The growth of on-line news media is bound to take its toll on print editions.

    while we still get a Sunday paper. I read the Guardion on line, arrives straight to my inbox on Phablet phone or PC, with news updates during the day...cost zilch
