I am also a member of a Morris Minor Owners forum and they refer to the the rival forum as the dark side.

It it common to have two main forums for enthusiasts which compete for members?

I remember a well known diving forum was " bought" by a Canadian company a few years ago and nearly everyone on it left in the huff and joined the new forum that was setup by previous members as they were not happy at being part of a commercial website.

Some even tried to claim copyright on their existing posts and were not too happy when the new owners would not let them delete their old posts.
They also referred to the other lot as the dark side and the snide comments seemed to go on forever.

Oh well...

We were much more grown up and only made the snide comments for about 10 years '\

Yes on singletrackworld.com, a mountain bike forum, turning to the dark side is becoming a roadie!

It does seem to be quite common. Motorhoming seems to be one of the rare interests which has only one credible forum.

Has Jim bunged you a few quid there? :-)

Vertical scope by any chance?, they have bought forums and alienated a massive amount of people in the last decade

As with the diving forum I used to go on a bike forum.

It was similar to Fun but non subscription if I remember correctly.

Brilliant forum lots of knowledge on there and you could have a laugh and a bit of leg pulling.

The owner sold to a Canadian firm and the forum crashed and burned just leaving tumbleweed blowing through.
