Since 2011 (tugger for 20 before that)
I am just phoning round for quotes for my new MoHo to be collected next week and insurers are asking for a Thatcham Cat1 alarm.
I have phoned the dealer and it doesn't have one:(. Just a factory fitted alarm and immobiliser.
Can anyone tell me what the difference is between fac. fitted and Cat 1?
If it really that much, why don't manufactures fit them as standard?
If I have to have one fitted my dealer has quoted £495 :Eeek:. Is that competitive?

There is no difference. It's just that the factory installed one hasn't been approved by Thatcham, or has it? Have you checked whether the factory installed one has approval because most factory fitted alarms fitted to UK 'cars' are Thatcham Cat 1? Category 1 is simply a combined alarm and immobiliser.

The definitions are here. Factory fit alarms don't always meet the standard. The immobiliser will meet Cat 2 though.
