Tesco downgrading their vouchers. Best to plan if travelling before June next year.
"
Here's how our Clubcard Reward Partner scheme is changing
From 14 June**, when you exchange your Clubcard vouchers for a Reward Partner code, they’ll be worth up to 2x as much, not up to 3x the value, as they are now.

Tesco Clubcard continues to have the biggest and most generous Reward Partner scheme with access to over 100 Reward Partners at 2x your Clubcard voucher value. So you can still make great savings on everything from family fun, dining out, cinema trips and more.

To give you extra time to decide when to use your Tesco Clubcard vouchers with Reward Partners, we’re extending the validity period on Tesco Clubcard Reward Partner codes ordered from 17 March until 13 June so that they’re valid for 12 months†, rather than the usual 6 months. So don’t worry, there’s plenty of time to use them at their current value before we make the change.

If you have any questions about this or anything else please visit our FAQ Page.

I'm going to buy two tunnel vouchers on 14th June, one for a trip at Christmas and one for summer 2024. Booking for July usually starts in December for Eurotunnel.

You might want to re-think that strategy ... have a read of this which I put on one of the other threads:

An IMPORTANT heads up which some may need to do soon ...

This applies to those who are signed up for the Clubcard Christmas Saver Scheme* but want to use Tesco vouchers for Rewards Partners before the value drops - if you've no intention of doing any Reward Partner spends before 14 June 2023 then you can ignore this (although some might find it informative if they've never heard of the CCSS).

*The Clubcard Christmas Saver scheme saves the points you earn throughout the year and only converts them to Tesco vouchers in November, it means that you won't get vouchers sent quarterly throughout the year and instead get larger ones in November which then have a 2 year expiry date to November 2025, rather than May 2025 or August 2025, so a good way to extend the period before you have to use them.

Option 1: Automatically convert ALL existing points into Tesco Vouchers

If you want all the points to be converted to Tesco vouchers automatically in the next statement before the value drop you need to change your scheme from Clubcard Christmas Saver to Vouchers - I'd do it by mid-April to be safe as I'm not sure what date the May ones will be actually issued. You will then have all your existing points converted to Tesco vouchers which will be issued in May 2023 and can exchange them for 3x value before 14 June 2023, rather than wait until November 2023 by which time they will only be worth 2x value.
  1. Log in to Tesco
  2. Click on My Clubcard
  3. Click on Voucher Schemes
  4. Change to Vouchers
  5. Click on Choose Scheme lower down page (not shown on screenshot)
1679140161664.png

Option 2: Manually convert SOME of your points into Tesco Vouchers

If you only want SOME of your points converting
so you can use them before the reduction in value, then stay with the Clubcard Christmas Saver Scheme and wait until the May ones have been issued then change to Vouchers as detailed above. This needs to be done before 14 June so you have a chance to convert them to Rewards Vouchers and 'spend' them, however I wouldn't leave it that late as they could be inundated in the panic to change loads before the deadline!

Once you've opted for the Vouchers scheme (nos 1-5 above) you can then request some* of your points to be converted to Tesco Vouchers and later change them for Partner Rewards Vouchers (*you don't have to convert all the points you have, just the amount you need for any Reward Partner you intend to use, the rest will remain on your account).

If you want to go back to being in the Clubcard Christmas Saver Scheme then once you've exchanged the points you need simply swap back to it before August (the next automatic voucher issue). The benefit is that your next lot of vouchers won't get issued until November and thus the expiry date will be November 2025 rather than August 2025.

Thanks Minxy, however, I already have mine converted to vouchers automatically, or I can do it manually. My plan is to use my vouchers just before the 14th June deadline to get 2 x codes for Eurotunnel, thus getting 3 times value. So if by then if I've got £100 of TCC I'll have £300, £150 for each Eurotunnel code. As far as I understand the Eurotunnel codes are valid for a year, or so I've been led to understand? I'll probably buy the December crossing in June this year and the July 2024 crossing tickets normally go on sale in December, so I should be well inside the 12 month Eurotunnel code deadline. I'm going to double check this as I got the information from an email from Moneysavingexpert. Thanks for the heads up.

I think I may have got the terminology wrong! The Eurotunnel codes are 'Reward Partner Codes' Below is copied from Moneysavingexpert article about the extension to the length of the Reward Partner Codes. I've put the link to the whole article below as well. I hope I've got this right, but happy to be corrected!

Here's what to do to get the benefit of triple Clubcard points for 12 months
Clubcard points are valid for two years, but when you swap them for rewards they usually expire after six months (unless otherwise stated).

However, Tesco is extending the validity of rewards for an additional six months leading up to 14 June. Any Reward Partner codes ordered before this date will continue to be valid for 12 months from the date of issue, so there's plenty of time to spend them on the current rate.

So make sure you swap vouchers for a Reward code by 11.59pm on 13 June, and you'll be able to use the code for a year.

You are correct Soycd , in this instance Tesco are extending the life of any exchanged vouchers to 12 months from the usual 6 months.

We exchanged some vouchers last year and the return leg of our trip this year wasn't on sale from Eurotunnel when we needed to book to use the vouchers, so we booked the out date that we wanted and the latest return date that we could at the time and then amended the return date for free online when that date became available to book. So it's all doable for the trips you want to book with the vouchers.

We will be exchanging all ours up before the deadline too.

As I understand it then:
Exchange vouchers before 14th June 2023 use before 14 June 2024 which should allow you to chose travel up to endish of June 2025
As per below:
You can make more than one trip
You cannot mix a 3x with a 2x
Edited with further information

Exactly that, and you can change your Tesco vouchers for more than one Reward voucher, so you don't need to use them all on one trip. Same as Soycd is doing and as we will also do.

Double check the maximum Reward Partner voucher value you can use for your ET crossing and that you can book an outward and an inward separately just in case they've changed the rules.

For this time only Tesco are giving Reward Partner vouchers a validity of 12 months instead of 6 months, then you've got the 12 month ET allowance from exchange on top of that - it's bad enough that Tesco are reducing the value from 3x to 2x but if they'd held the 6 month validity I think they'd have been slaughtered even more.

But you can only use one code per partner booking I understand.
Yes, for a single it's one code, for a return it's one code, unless you book as 2 single journeys in which case you'll need 2 codes.

Tesco will also be changing the way you get points for petrol/diesel. Basically you won't get as many as you do at the moment.
From 14 June 2023, the number of Tesco Clubcard points you collect will depend on how many litres of fuel you buy at a Tesco Petrol Filling Station. This excludes Esso filling stations with a Tesco Express store.

You’ll collect 1 point for every 2 litres of fuel, instead of 1 point for every £2 you spend.

For Tesco Bank customers, the number of points you collect will also depend on whether you use your Tesco Bank card to collect points for fuel, to pay for fuel, or both.

The situation for Tesco Bank customers and Tesco Clubcard Plus is not mentioned on the webpage but at the Tesco petrol station this morning a sign stated that:
From 14 June 2023, you’ll collect 1 point for every 1 litre of fuel, instead of 1 point for every £1 you spend.

That's a bummer, we'll likely not bother with Tesco much now, we don't go that often as it is especially since we got an Aldi in the village now so can get most stuff from there, also a Co-op (get loads of discount coupons!), Heron, Savers etc and not far away Farmfoods and other similar types of shops. Very little reason to go to Tesco except for fuel and we can get that elsewhere just as cheaply, if not even cheaper.

We have Tesco credit cards, so we can pick up points pretty much all the time. Actually I'm surprised the 3:1 went on for as long as it did, it was almost too good to be true!

I have a Tesco credit card with 0% for 15 months so will continue to use that but now they've changed the number of points you get on fuel I'm wondering if they'll also reduce the ones for shopping in store too.

Probably reduce the points for outside store use.
