Sitting her in Benidorm last week I finally got round to checking through the comprehensive service records from the bus. I thought it strange why there was no mention of brake pad replacement and with over 230000 on the clock I thought it best to have a look. Plenty of life left in them thanks to the 4 stage Telma retarder. Why dont all manufacturers of larger motorhomes fit these things.

Had to learn about those at college when I was an Apprentice. Never needed the knowledge, working in the car side if the industry. Can't remember the technology now as it was 44 years ago.

Probably cost - you can buy a lot of pads (and discs) for the price of a Telma.(y)

care to elaborate ?

Fits in the prop shaft so RWD only, creates a braking force by eddy currents generating electricity (which is lost as heat).

Safety feature for trucks and busses.

Don't know the option price on the IVECO.

would of thought a exhaust brake (jake brake) would be a cheaper option to fit than a telma not quite as good as the telma
