‘ I suspect the operators have changed hands again, which it appears to do every 3 to 5 years.
No I believe still same owners... Mrs Poppycamper been following them on facetube recently and gets the impression they trying to recoup money they have spent (outside glass dome dining bubble for one) to try and stay open during Covid. Mohos were £5pppn then went up to £10, now up again.
In addition you now have to book.
Shame I did like it up there.

Looking at their website, MH prices are a relative bargain! It’s £20 ppn for tents to camp on a patch of moor.

It must be one hell of a breakfast!

They will always be extremely busy regardless of motorhomes, with it being the country's highest pub at 1732 ft above sea level. Tourists love that fact and have their photo taken outside to send back home to America, China etc.

Food always been from the freezer and microwaved crap not sure if that's now changed.

I suppose because of how famous it is they can charge what they want. Is it just good business planning?

Have overnighted there about 3 or 4 times over the years , happily paying the £5 to charity contribution ,was also content to buy drinks and meals there ..Last visit was about 3 years ago and we decided even then , that we possibly would not return. That was actually due to our feeling that the quality of food and general service was progressively going down. The new minimum £ 40 per night charge is just far too high for what you get. This latest price hike by them has ensured that we will not be returning .

Since April 1846 but have always camped.
Tann Hill have removed all the comments of FB that dont like the idea. Very sad but there are lots of places around the Yorkshire Moors and Dales that welcome motorhomes.
Here's 2 that I can recommend
Station Inn Helwith Bridge Inn
I just looked at their FB page and as you say just full of gushing comments on how fantastic it is. Shame!

For real reviews, Google the inn, and look at the reviews on there, not all good or bad, but a wide selection. (y)

We do a lot of pub stops but wouldn't dream of spending that much to stay over.

Recently rang The Metal Bridge Inn at Carlisle who are closed but welcomed us to stay over if we wanted. They are doing take away meals.

This place also has toilets and showers as well as fresh water and an elsan point. Theres no scenery but goes to show how some pubs do welcome motorhomes and their custom.

Don't know if this is the right thing to put up but you can see two reviews from totally different perspective on the same day

Just for clarification, the prices listed from their website are in the image below and include breakfast

IMG_20210113_144045.png

So it's £15 per person including breakfast and £20 at Peak times (£8 or £10 for kids)

Obviously whether the price represents good value is subjective (each to their own)

I'm sure the laws of supply & demand will apply - so in the future the price may go up or down!

Most people cant do monday to thursday, and even if they could, almost every other pub would let you stop for free especially mid week.
I think all the positive comments though on Facebook say it will do well even at those extortionate rates, much more positive than negative the comments are.

Since 2009 with motorhomes several caravans then tents before that.
We’ve been lots of times , ever since owning a motorhome.
The foods always been poor, we’ve even sent it back on a couple of occasions. The staff changed regularly but it never improved. So we stopped eating there after giving them several chances. The beer was ok , and after a long walk, the roaring fire great. As others have said it’s the place itself and scenery that we’ve stopped there for. That and the fact it’s a stop over on way up to or back down from Scotland.
These were taken on the way up to Moffat for Hogmanay with our first motorhome back in 2012.

I don’t know if their marketing strategy will work or not. What I do know is that one of our favourite campsites for a long weekend is Pinewood in Wells next the sea, it’s quite expensive at approximately £35 per night from memory. Whenever this site is discussed on social media there follows multiple replies stating I wouldn’t pay that “it’s a rip off” yet we tried several times last year to make a booking, the site was full every time.

The thread on FB yesterday was the opposite. But as if by magic today all the objective posts have been removed.

I think you all know my opinion on spending money, by now, but on this , it's their pub they can really charge what they like and if it works they will have a few motorhomes paying this and won't have to worry about folks who don't want to pay these charges.
Not for me, but good luck to them if they can do it , and in fact there are a few on here who say they will pay it so might be the way to go for them.

If they are fixed prices with no option but to include breakfast, I won't be going anywhere near them in future. If there is a reasonably priced parking only option I might reconsider. Unfortunately with the boom in camping and leisure vehicle sales and rental, there will be people who will pay that price, and they don't need that many as a percentage of the total number of motorhomers to be fully booked for a large part of the year.

I can see a lot more of this happening. Supply and demand.

What has happened with britstops during the lockdowns, has anyone used them when opening was allowed again , are any letting you park for a fee or what.
Or has it all closed down?

Britstops is still going strong. We used them between August and October last year with no problems.

The toilet and shower block will have been installed for walkers on the long distance Lyke Wake walk (which passes close by and the pub is a major stopping point) not for the convenience of motorhomes.
I wouldn't pay more than a fiver and £40 is aimed at putting motorhomes off staying.
Sorry, but I think you are mistaken, the Lyke Wake Walk crosses the North Yorks Moors from Osmotherly to Ravenscarr. If a walk passes nearby I believe it may be the Pennine Way.
