I have just posted this months news roundup from the BMF in the motorcycle section and this is part of it

Remember last month, when we kicked off this column with news that the issue of taking bikes into the EU had apparently been solved? Turns out it’s not quite that simple... True, the EU Commissioner did write a letter saying that ‘means of transport’ crossing into the EU would not be subject to customs formalities. All good, except that some customs authorities are arguing that a motorcycle being taken in by van or trailer isn’t a ‘means of transport’ but ‘goods in transit.’

So my question..
Has anyone had an issue going over to France/Spain/where ever with a motorbike or scooter on the back of their motorhome , or is this another case where we are at the whim / mood of the French customs officials when we get where we are going ?

No probs last time I went. Looked at bike, skimmed over docs I had in my hand and waved on. I doubt a scooter on/in a motorhome will cause any issue.

Got pulled by customs at Santander in march, ask for scooter v5 and my passport to see if both names matched all very friendly.

I came through the tunnel a couple of weeks ago with the Smart in the back of the motorhome and no problems at all 👍

No problems entering France from the tunnel, no one asked to look in the garage so no issues. If you have number plates v5 and insurance it's clearly a method of transport, it might be an issue if it was a racing bike going to race meetings perhaps.

Went into Santander and back via Channel Tunnel with trailed scooter. No questions asked at all.

I really believe that we are overthinking this. If we carry V5 and Insurance documents officials can appreciate why we are carrying an additional means of transport.

If you want to smuggle items there are better ones to carry.

TBH John, I if it's comming from the BMF then, personally, I'd ignore it.

I took my bike on an open trailer without issue last year and would have done the same this year barring the shoulder ;)

Cheers
Red.
