I love Anglesey had a great week there summer last year.
Swam across the Menai Straits many times when I was at HMS Conway. Beautiful place to spend your college days.
Agreed. It went on to become a LEA Outdoor Pursuits Centre - I've been there a number of times and thoroughly enjoyed it, as did the youngsters we accompanied. They still have a picture of the original HMS Conway in the foyer.
True, doesn't it have some of the strongest rip tides in UK?
Like wise, stayed on a brilliant little CL looking towards the lighthouse at South Stack, absolute bliss and the weather was superb for our stay!
I have fished the Strait from a boat and a 2 pound weight would not get me to the bottom...
Some local info..
Interesting, I'm trying to remember the name of the ( I think) Tudor era warship that foundered there.
HMS Conway was the ship.
It was being towed through the swellies but the tug was slightly late and the ship ran aground, and later on broke up.
The swimming was done at low tide at slack water
no choice- we had to
