Tagging and naming (1 Viewer)

I have recently been corralling (no pun intended ) all my digital pics onto my NAS. I now have 1.4TB of photos and scans some of which have taken dates, others just copied dates and file names like P1120300.jpg

I'm looking for advice on how best to catelogue them so that I can subsequently search them by months/years and content (location/event/people). I realise that I am going to have to look at each one, it's not going to be done by AI I wouldn't have thought, but it would be good to be able to quickly preview and add tags/change names while the pic is on the screen.

I wouldn’t worry too much about individually tagging each one unless you really need to It will be an endless task.


A simple and effective method is to simply arrange them into folders and title the folder:

France July 2015
Photos Jan 14 - Apr 14
Model shoot 11/03/17
Dogs 2015

etc.

You get the idea.

There’s no point in spending 6 months tagging and building a fully cross referenced database unless you’re going to need to search it on a regular basis.
