Not a nice thread to start with, but practical.

I won't bore you with the fact that 'WE HAVE ONLY 1 DAY BEFORE WE COLLECT OUR M.H. !', but we have been enjoying another aspect of this new life......... searching for suitable 'stuff' to furnish our van.
We had a nightmare this year when we hired a van for the first time, with the toilet liquid. Not having a clue, when the company included a bottle of the loo fluid, we didn't realise how long it would last (not long). By the time we needed to purchase more we couldn't find anywhere (where we camped) that sold it. This included 'proper' sites (private, municipal and aires). Did we miss a trick ?
France was so brilliant in recognising MHs' but on sites where we stayed their shops were sadly lacking in the fundamentals.

Anyhoo, in my long winded post. We have discovered there is a tablet form to place into the toilet cassette (not my favourite part or the MH thing). The liquid was so messy and I managed to make a complete mess with it.

At the risk of having lost everyone's interest in this thread...........

which is the best in your view.......... tablet or liquid ?????????

Liquid in my opinion.... tablet form can gather in the tank if not disolving properly.

Also when out of the blue stuff you can use bio washing liquid. Available from supermarkets. Many MHrs use it all the time, and its cheaper

This thread is what makes this forum so brilliant............. From using peanut butter to 'touch up your rubber seals' to using bio washing up liquid for your toilet......

Once again you lot, a BIG thank you and I hope newbies have been made aware of something as fundamental as an 'old M.H. timer would not think as something significant.
All advice and tips are very welcome.

Well I'm glad you asked that question! I'd never have thought that bio washing liquid would be suitable....

Since 2012 but longer in my dreams
I've only ever used bio washing liquid in our Mh,got the tip from here!
Couple of glugs normally does,a cheap bottle from Aldi or Lidl normally lasts a fortnight emptying every 2 or 3 days.Everything breaks down into a greyish sludge and pours away easily.

The cassette cap is graduated inside-I find 70mm is about right (I use the standard Blue) you should get about 20 refills from a 1.5 litre bottle.

Was a newbie, now a Middie.
Just done a three week 'trial' on Bio washing liquid. Will never return to blue, (or green), again. (y)(y)

"how much" is an awkward question, as in "what" do you do in your loo, and how much, or how many users. aim for about the same used in a washing machine load. if it "smells" add more

I started by adding a full capful, as you might if washing clothes but now use about half that and could probably use even less, but we empty every day - 'cos it's full by then.
I also dribble a little down the sink after every emptying of waste water, it really helps keep everything fresh down there.

Another useful tip is to always let your partner know that you are emptying the cassette, so they dont go for a wee.
Otherwise as you are putting it back you think you have a leak - happened once - soon learned a lesson !!

When I told the doctor that I dribbled he told me to keep taking the tablets. He never mentioned anything about the sink.

not long enough
we have moved on to bio washing liquid, but we have a black tank to further confuse / complicate the thread

to add even more to the mix, you can also buy what we called tea bags for the toilet cassette, a portion of blue chemical in a dry form inside an easy to dispense degradable bag

easy to use, not cheap, but no issues of how much or any mess

cat litter is your friend if you experience this or the cassette leaks. soaks it up and kills the smell

Having been caravanning for 10 years and only just having collected our FIRST EVER MH on Friday (woop woop!) I imagine I will continue to use the Aquakem blue sachets. So much easier to use than faffing about with liquids! Good to know about the bio washing liquid though in case I ever run out! (y)

Biggest myth is that proper toilet chemicals are needed - learnt from here that any cheap bio laundry powder, tablets or liquid does just as well & much cheaper(y) Don't have that awful loo chemical smell either. Wouldn't change back now.

We use Tesco Bio Tablet washing powder, we dissolve the tablet in the bowel then flush into the tank, keeps the bowel nice and clean. Works a treat.

We open the flap & drop the uncrushed tablet into the tank so none goes on the rubber seal in case the detergent could damage it. After cleaning toilet bowl we lubricate seal with Thetford spray (olive oil is fine too) :)

We started to use bio washing capsules-they are easy to store in a reseal bag-they smell nice and are easy to put in the cassette from above as it were-no spills no mess . If we need more than 1 because we cant empty the cassette then its easy to add.;)

Can I just ask whether the bio washing stuff breaks down the solid stuff in the same way as the chemicals do? I'm tempted to try....
