Paid quite a bit for a Sygic Truck licence - IU am using it in RV/Motorhome mode and it knows my width and my weight is 7 tonnes.

First the problems:

1. In the Lake District the other day it sent me down a 6' 6" wide road - a slightly shorter route than the right route but it should never have done so. There was no warning before I was already committed - made it by a hairs breadth.

2. Driving from Newark down to Channel Tunnel there were problems on the M11 - traffic delay went up to 3 hours and 25 minutes - we would miss our train. It refused to reroute. Quick look at Google Maps and a new route following google had delay of just 12 minutes. Kept both sat nav running - went at least 30 miles on the google route before Sygic decided that route was better. Very poor

Problem/questions:
Now I am in France - it is insisting on sending me on routes that have the 3.5t warning sign - do these signs only apply to trucks and not motorhomes?

Similarly, with speed limits, it is showing the normal speed limits eg 110 on the motorway - but am I not limited to 90km/hr when over 3.5 tonnes?

I quite like the interface but less information and better routing would be appreciated or maybe I should put it in Trick mode??

I always noticed Tomtom was very poor at rerouting too. I expect most have their shortcomings. The built in satnav in my Land rover would happily take you 50miles out of your way or up a green lane to avoid ever turning round.

100 on 110 Limit & 110 on 120 & 130 Limit I think.

AFAIK the 3.5t limit applies to all vehicles. Best follow the road signs instead of the Sygic route.

I am under 3.5t and discovered that it can be slower and more hassle going through some town centres. So many 30 kph zones, raised tables and other traffic calming measures. Now I prefer to stick to the bypass / rocade with the trucks. It's usually quicker and easier despite the roundabouts.

Mentioned in a post last week that Sygic had flagged a 20 minute delay on the M20 towards Folkestone which had only affected west bound traffic.

We have a Garmin Camper 660 which is usually very reliable, but last week on a run from South Wales to Cumbria, it told us that the A49 was closed and suggested an alternative route.

Fortunately we knew that we didn’t go on the A49 on that journey.

????

Just copied this from the detailed truck user guide. I think they know what they are trying to say but I am not sure they are say8ng it!

It should be working in RV mode but it doesn’t. I changed to truck mode and it looks like it now avoids the 3.5t limited roads and gave me a different route.

Phisical parameters for Truck, RV and bus
SettingDescriptionDetail
Max speedMaximum allowed speed for your vehicle When the actual speed exceeds this max speed the audio notification will be given by navigation. The parameter also affects ETAcalculations.
Total weightTotal weight of the vehicle including load Sygic will calculate the route using roads where limit is not higher then total weight of vehicle. For example Sygic will not guide driver via bridges with lower tolerance then max weight.
Total vehicle lengthTotal vehicle length (only vehicle without trailers) Sygic will calculate the route using roads where limit is not higher then total weight of vehicle.
Vehicle widthTotal vehicle widthSygic will calculate the route using roads where limit is not higher then total width of vehicle. For example Sygic will not guide driver via tunnels, bridges, lane with lower tolerance then max width.
Maximum heightMaximum height of vehicleSygic will calculate the route using roads where limit is not higher then total height of vehicle. For example Sygic will not guide driver via tunnels, bridges with lower tolerance then max height.

Not just satnag getting it wrong.
On the M6 south of Manchester a few years ago and the person setting the info on the overhead gantry's must have known I was going home.
The gantry said there were long delays on the A64 at the A19 junction....... The other side of the country.
Of course, the road was clear when we got there. :D2

Reply from Sygic support. RV setting doesn’t work on weights - use truck setting. Crap software programming

surely not, we ONLY have the camper/RV version, the information said d it DID work on weight as what is the point of inputting the information.

I found the RV weight setting doesn’t work. We’re a 3.5T van, but putting that or slightly lower in as an RV weight, it still shows speed limits for heavier vehicles.

The fix was to run it with the delivery van option... which doesn’t have vehicle dimensions, so less useful for routing.

It’s a shame, because I prefer the Sygic interface to any other satnav, but the programming leaves a bit to be desired for 50 quid.

If the warning sign includes a truck, then it only applies to goods vehicles. If it’s just a weight sign with no vehicles shown, it applies to all vehicles over that weight.

Here is Sygics full response....

Hello Chris,

Thank you for contacting Sygic.

I am sorry for any inconvenience. In this case, I would recommend using Truck setting instead, even if you have RV Motorhome. Truck routing works better in some situations.

We are currently aware of this issue and we are preparing a fix for it. It should be fixed in one of the next updates for Sygic Truck Navigation.

If you have any other questions, please contact me back.

Thank you for understanding and we are sorry for the inconvenience.

Not Sygic I know, but on my Sat Nav when in France, Austria, and Switzerland, I use the car mode set for a weight of 3.49 tonnes, but with the full size and height dimensions of our large 5.5t MH. This prevents me being guided away from 3.5t truck weight restrictions, which often lead to Aires and sites, and access roads, etc. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Done a bit more research on this.

It would seem that in most instances if you need that road to get to an Aire then you are probably okay.

I have informed Sygic that a 3.5t sign means all vehicles and with a lorry means no commercial vehicles but RVs are okay.

I doubt they have that level of information in their database but we shall see as I have asked them to comment. As for the access to an Aire if there is no other route then I would risk it and argue the toss. At least now on Truck setting I know it will avoid the 3.5t if it can.

Yes, I have been for many years now. ;)

Sauf is often the key word displayed on restriction signs............ In France anyway. :)

Broken Link Removed

Jock. :)

Further response from Sygic. Make if it what you will...

Hello Chris,

I know Truck routing is not perfect for Motorhomes, but neither is RV routing. We know about these issues and hopefully, they will be fixed soon. Unfortunately, we do not have the exact date yet, so I would like to ask for your patience in this matter.

Thank you for understanding

Not only Syjic. My Garmin had a habit of wanting to go where it shouldnt despite using R-V Mode. Dumped it for a (5") Tom-Tom, as it was too big (7") for where I needed it. (and over complex to set up).
