Motorhome (1997 Hymer s650) is in the body shop at the moment with the rear bumper removed for inspection of back two locker floors which are showing signs of damp and crumbly wood.
It's up on lift and Scott the manager went over with me where the wood will need replaced then pointed out a section and says 'you've got woodworm' adding that this is the first time he has seen woodworm in a motorhome. Must admit I was not expecting that. Hope its an easy fix.
In addition I found out that the underslung gas tank is as old as the van (1997) and one of the technicians smelled gas when he took off the hatch at the side that covered the valves and gauge. He thinks the valves are so old they may have lost their airtightness. In addition the regulator has never been changed either and is well past its sell by date by around 25 years. Of course this may be the cause of the smell of gas.
Whilst on the ramp had a good chance to look at the undercarriage and it looks good for its age. Looks like its been treated with something which has kept any serious rust away.
Will probably cost a few bob to get it all done but then will have a van which I know will be in as tip top condition as it can be for its age.

Woodworm is easily treated so long as it's not so bad strength has been compromised. The little blighters eat the glue used in the plywood bonding usually.

They are in the areas that will be getting stripped out but Scott will be treating all surrounding wood just in case.

Sorry to hear about this. Quite often it's due to spray from the wheels. Worth fitting mudguard extensions to prevent a recurrence
