What the hell would happen if you were abroad with the vehicle who would pay then or repair it?
Abroad will rarely be a problem.
What concerns me is foreigners in the UK with a problem who face this ptoblem.
I could try a dedicated Fiat Dealer; or do you think I will get the same answer.
Any fiat dealer or commercial dealer will work on it.

The Chausson dealer you are talking about is just up the road from me.
Their reviews are really good but I’m sure it only relates to vehicles purchased from them.
I enquired about a repair to my Hobby that could be carried out by any caravan accredited agent and they were not interested.
The dealer you're referring to is the one on the Birdham straight? We bought from them purley as I didn't want to travel far for any warranty work if it cropped up. Luckily only a couple of minor problems which were sorted.

One weight reduction I will be making straight away, to hopefully help with payload situation is removing the two travel seats if that is possible; I dont know what they weigh but it all slightly increases the weight I can carry. I don't want to or need to carry passengers or even the grandkids messing up my clean MH with their sticky fingers. LOL

Bought our previous van from Derby Motorhomes, who are not a Fiat specialist (they use a local to them Fiat garage). Van had to go in for a recall, and went to SMC Motorhomes at Newark, because they were our nearest appropriate garage. Whilst there they asked us about hab service, and when I raised the issue of warranty work if it was necessary, they said no problem. As it was it didnt need any warranty work.

I think you will find it only happens in the UK.
Hymer have a Pan European warranty but most UK dealers take the piss and don't comply.
Looks like proof of what you said Lenny.

They charge customers £60 - £80 an hour, manufacturers only pay about £40 for warranty repairs. All the time their workshops have a 3 month waiting list they couldn't care a toss, don't even like doing warranty work on vans they have sold.
Different mindset aboard most dealers only too happy to do warranty work, they look at it as extra income.
UK appear to go out of their way to piss off the customers apart from a friendly dealer on here who goes out of his way to help people Simon-Alan Kerr.
We take on all warranty work. I used to run Howard’s and today a customer I sold a van to before I worked for Alan kerr turned up and we squeezed them in. It meant the techs missing lunch. As far as my workshop goes, profit is profit and I will always try to help whether it came from me or not. If I look after people they will come back to me.
However some issues. We are booking for November as we simply cannot keep up at the moment but will squeeze in when we can!

NCC approved engineers are everywhere, they come to your house.
the engine is serviced by the makers, Fiat, Mercedes, etc.
This is what gives dealers a bad reputation. They won’t always have it their own way.

Fiat side is sorted with my local dealer. However, Sunlight insist on a Sunlight Dealer doing the Hab side to comply with their warranty conditions.

Once I’ve got my warranty work done I’ll be using a local mobile company, and forgo the rest of the Sunlight Warranty Period.

2016 Carado T135

Hello, We imported our Carado T135 from Germany in the good old days 2016 and had been told by the UK Hymer MD, that no UK dealer would touch it for warranty wor. He even said he woudld make sure of it if he found out. How wrong can he be? Camper UK were and continue to be very helpful.

The base vehicle is a Fiat Ducato and Fiat Professional York (NE Truck & Van) has honoured our warranty for the base vehicle. I would NEVER EVER use a MH dealer to service or carry out warranty work on my base vehicle. 40+ years experience has its benefits. Your Chausson should be a Ducato 2020 model and will be well covered by Fiat Professional. I don't know about Mercedes base vehicles, but I know that our Hymer 522 Van 2008 - 2016 was on a Ford Chassis and Stoneacre Ford did a mass of warranty work on it in the first 3 years we had it and later when we had extended warranty on the whole vehicle M B&G @ £250 per year both the base vehicle dealership and the MH dealership carried out the work for us. They were only too happy. One thing I learned is "act a bit dumb" with the dealers. I also had a major run-in with one dealer back in 2010, who refused to undertake some warranty work and took it to Hymer in Germany with a high profile complaint. The following year I noticed that the company were no longer a Hymer dealer. We do have power but it has to be focussed and one has to be determined to go for the jugular (then I live in Whitby so I know all about Drakula).

Stick to it. check your local Fiat dealership and make sure the warranty is transferred when you buy.

Unfortunately with Chausson, to maintain the warranty, all habitation servicing & damp checks must be carried out by an approved Chausson dealer/ workshop. The only two non dealer Chausson approved workshops are Cannock Resprays & River Motorhomes near Stratford upon Avon. Both are well recommended on the Chausson Owners FB Group.

Although as well as treating customers right you also have to treat the staff right, if missing lunch becomes more regular you may find some will leave or complain.

Wow, I'm realising how naive we were last year when we bought our first motorhome (and how lucky). We bought a now 18 year old Ace Capri (Fiat Ducato base) from a dealer 80 miles away but paid for a 3 year warranty (which appeared to cost the same irrespective of the age of the motorhome). On our first trip this year, the clutch burnt out (the friction ring had completely gone) causing the crankshaft position sensor to fail. We had it fixed by a local garage. I put in a warranty claim expecting it to be - "Well that's wear and tear on an 18 year old van" and they paid for the clutch but not the crankshaft position sensor - well that was by far the majority of the claim so we were very happy with that. Oh and on another note, managed to get a replacement 6 Kg calor gas bottle from the same garage this week after we had the service and MOT done there. In some ways, I am happy we couldn't afford a newer motorhome although now we know a bit more from this forum, a lottery win would be a nice way to upgrade

It also happens with cars.
When you tell them the franchise obliges them to help, they say ok, but we are very busy and perhaps could get to it in a few months.
The importer or manufacturers should take this issue on.

I’m mad “no not insane”

I am purchasing a Chausson Premium 768 XLB which I think is a great buy; the problem is it is in Bolton and that is where it was first purchased.

This MH is only 10 months old; now obviously if I get problems I don’t want to travel 230 miles every time to get it repaired; having said that if it was a large repair I would travel.

I phoned a Chausson dealer in Chichester which is near to me to see if they would support the warranty should it need any work; they told me that I would not find a company which would support a vehicle which has been bought from another dealer.

This makes me so mad; I would of thought that being a dedicated dealer for any make it would be part of their conditions to be a dealer.

What the hell would happen if you were abroad with the vehicle who would pay then or repair it?

I can’t believe this is correct but perhaps you people can put me straight.

I have a Bailey which I bought from a dealer in Lincolnshire. I live in Stoke and have had warranty repairs done at dealers in Derby and Cheshire with no problems.

We bought both our Chaussons from new from Bolton (live in Bath) as we got better deals up north. Have all our
habitations and warranty work done at the Chausson dealer in Highbridge Somerset with no problems, very helpful.
Have even phoned them from France to help with small problems while out there, always helpful even though their
first question is 'did you buy from us?'

We Purchased new in France. But I had made a telephone call to South West motorhomes before to ask if they would do the warranty et cetera. They agreed, and have done do everything year since. So there are some good dealers, but Southwest motorhomes couldn’t match the price at the time.

Something to be said for buying a VW Grand California.
Although i no longer own a VW California, and purchased a Hymer PVC i really valued the VW quality of service and liked the national network for both base vehicle and habitation area.
If VW had made a suitable 4 berth PVC conversation i would of purchased.
Unfortunately the 600 is a 4 berth with a very small roof bed and the larger 680 is only 2 berth.
