Hi - we're 'between vans' at the moment having sold our van to take advantage of the current high market, and we're looking to go back to a PVC. We're just doing brochure/reviews/google searching at the moment with the intention of visiting vans that meet our criteria in a couple of months. This forum is very useful as we can scour the UK vans and the Foreign Vans sub-forums to see what issues and what good points owners are making about the various makes. One manufacturer we've come across is Sunlight, not the best name but apparently part of Hymer, but at the very budget end which appeals to us being basic types. There is no listing for Sunlight in the sub-forums so just wondered if there any owners on here who would like to share their views, good or bad, on these...or perhaps none have been sold? It is a new name to us.

Sunlight, as an independent company, is 15 years old this year. They were a sister company to the Dethleff Group before parting ways and were introduced as the budget end. They were particularly used as rental units as there were cheap but well built.(y)
We have had our A72 for 5 years this Dec and so far haven't had any snags bar one cupboard door internal laminate starting to blow. Build quality is good, but you will be getting laminates and not real wood. Insulation is good and we've parked up in some sub zero temps in our time. When we get to the end of "BanHam's" time, I wouldn't hesitate to get another. We were even thinking of trading in early and getting the new A Class, but didn't like the all white cupboard fronts. The only thing that we don't like now is the new livery.

The only problem you will get is convincing dealers that yours is not an ex rental Oop Norf loads of companies have started up renting out motorhomes and in the main they are Sunlight, nothing against the brand but may reduce value if/when changing van!

I would broaden you search to include Carado as they are essentially the same vehicles.

We picked up our Sunlight Cliff 600 last month. Only been away for 3 days in it, but first impressions are very positive. Spent a few days adding our personal touches, but really happy so far.

If you’re interested in going new, I can give you our full spec with a price I paid. (y)

had my t69 for 3 years now with only a fridge problem ( crap thetford) no problems with the build and i would buy another

No (carolyn ) dont have a sunlight we went for a sunliving (by adria). Worth having a look at one if your not fussed about all the bells and whistles mega expensive offerings in the PVC market.

My mistake, wasn’t for me, it was the OP. We are happy with our IH630RD. I remember seeing you’d changed your van but I’d remembered incorrectly.

Hi Carolyn - yeh I got that and my comment was for the OP aswell.
Cant imagine you and nick sluming it at the budget end of the market:giggle:

Most of the discount Germans are already quoted, they include 'Sunliving' a basic Adria. 'Corado' a basic Hymer I believe, 'Sunlight', a basic Dethleffs. I believe that they are all built outside of the 'parent' factories but their design features externally are clearly built to a budget although they include some common parts. There may be discount Laika's or Niessman Bischoffs but I am not aware of them.
When it comes to the engines and chassis', most seem to come from Fiat, Ford, Mercedes or Renault and should be of the same quality, like for like, as any van.

According to the Erwin Hymer Group website, Sunlight is definitely still part of the family.

And from what I've read, Sunlight (and Carado) are manufactured in the most modern motorhome factory in Europe.

Preston motorhomes rent them , maybe worth taking one out for a few days

hymer own McRent and one of the other rental companies, thus why Sunlights are often on the hire fleet.

we hired a sunliving pvc from freedom, like the fact the back beds could be used as seat unlike my pvc.

wanted to look at a Sunlight pvc, but when spoke to northern dealers they had no stock and large waiting list.

we called into one, and looked at various motorhomes as my wife felt PVC to claustrophobic, we have still ended up buying a Sunlight, but motorhome rather thanPVC, not collected yet but build looks good, had a couple of hours crawling over it yesterday before dealer does final checks.

The dealer we got our Sunlight from has sold all his 2021 stock. He’s taking orders for March 2022!

Thanks for all the replies, from the positive comments Sunlight are definitely going on the list of potentials...although I note the potential delays if we go new.

Have you looked in Viscount Motorhomes in Burseldon? They are who we used. Great family run business.

We’ve owned a Carado T447 for the last two years having owned a Swift for five years before that. We have nothing but praise for the Carado, great interior design, great layout and high quality build at the right price.

No, hadn't picked up on them. Just looked at their website, they've got a very nice looking Sunlight A-Class for sale. They're going on the list to watch as not too far from us. Thanks!

Better book campsites now for 2021 and 2022 then.

I supsect things will calm down once a vaccine is invented and people start going back to ‘normal’ holidays. Saying this there were always lead times.

Thanks - also had missed this maker, the PVC's look close to what we're thinking of and (from the website) the decor looks good so will look them out as well.

Sadly (for many reasons obviously), think it'll be some time yet before the vaccine is widely available. Think the market will stay quite buoyant for a while yet - good when we sold, not so good when looking.
