summer trip to germany (1 Viewer)

we are planning a trip to the moselle and black forest areas, as this is our first trip with a motorhome to europe can anyone give us any useful info we need to know, such as routes to take sites to see and any important things we need to have with us we have a hymer 594 1994 diesel

We love doing Germany. You should find a warm welcome wherever you go.
About the only tip I can offer is be aware there are very few garages ( as in petrol / diesel places ) open on a Sunday, but providing you have your pin number most garages will have a pump set up so you can use that.

There are a good many free sites signposted off the autobahns and many of those will have hook ups that are coin operated and will have somewhere to dump your grey and black tanks

A few words of German go a long way but you proly know that already !

Although not exactly spring chickens, we went to PhantasiaLand last year.. If you get a chance, go there !!!

There is a rumour ( but I suspect no more than that ) that part of the Colditz Schoss may be pulled down before it falls down.. I appreciate it is quite a way from your destination but if you feel like a wander that is a great place to visit and the museum is well worth going to..

Buy a copy of theLink Removed it has all the German Stelplatz (aires) .. if you have a sat nav load it with the Link Removed

Germany is a great motorhome country, you will be made welcome..

The Mosel has dozens of Stelplatz, you will be spoilt for choice.. Try Enkirch .. lovely town with the site on the river banks.. Trier is also worth a visit .. huge Stelpatz near the city centre ..

we did the Mosel last year it was really nice, we started at Cocham and went all the way down, its beautiful and there are loads of stelplatzs to stay on for just a few euros and most have electric, (don't need to book)most of the shops assistants speak English, and there are lots of wine producers, although other English M/H are a bit thin on the ground

we also stopped at Koln which is very cosmopoliton and the stalplatzs over looks the Rhine. If you have your bikes you can cycle in to the centre(about 15 min on bike) or catch the tram which is at the entrance to the stalplatz, simply buy an allday ticket on the tram(machine does English) we brought a family ticket so we could hope on and off for under 10 euros for upto 5 persons,

We would suggest you head for Brugge on your way down,(depending on which way you go) the aire there is about 20 Euros for 24 hours and Brugge is stuning and just 10 mins walk, Also fill up with Diesel and Gas (if you have gaslow or lpg converted) before leaving Belguim its cheaper than both France and Germany by quite a bit,

we have German Friends who tell us the Black forest is simply stunning I assume you know its also known as the romantic road, we have never been there ourselves but hope to soon

Black Forest

We took our MH (21 ft long) here, year before last and stayed for about 10 days on a camp site on the edge of Sulzburg.
This is a very pretty village about 12 miles SW of Freiburg (Baden-Wurttemberg). The area is quiet with lots of lovely walks in the woods. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The village has all the shops for essentials and there are a few decent retaurants. Everybody was most helpful and friendly - though there were a few occasions when we were not understood (our German 2 out of 10, their English about the same.). We can probably dig out the details of the campsite where we stayed if you want.
From here we drove the scenic route to Bavaria - stunning (though quite a long trip).:thumb:

We did the Mosel last year, we started in Koblenz and went up to Trier via Cochem and Bernkastel.
In Koblenz we took a camping (50.365885/7.603690), but there is a possibility to park (paying) and overnight along the Rhine bank at the city-site. (50.361071/7.604847)
From the camping to the city there is a small pont (ferry) across the Mosel

In Cochem we stayed at a whine farmers 3 km's upstream (50.142915/7.213144) for just a few Euro's, and in Bernkastel we did the same but about 2 to 3km downstream (49.937765/7.0482029)

Along the river there are plenty of camperplaces - but we only took the larger touristic places.

In Trier (don't miss Trier - it is one of the oldest cities in Europe) we stayed at the camperplace at the Conrad Adenhauer bridge at 49.741438/6.622607

If you plan to explore the South of Germany surely don't mis the Romantischer Strasse (romantic street) Romantic Road - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia - see it yourself - an unforgettable route.. We did it coming back from Austria back to Belgium and we will do it again it is too beautiful to see in only one time.

Don't miss Bruges, though the aire is expensive: 25€ in summer, 15 in winter, dayparking 5 €. From Bruges take N9 > Maldegem (free parking swimmingtpool Gidsenlaan)
> Eeklo: aire at the yachtharbour, 3€/n. Then follow N9 to Ghent:aire at Driebeeksraat (free).
Make your way to Brussels (no aire, only parking possibility at the 'Atomium'. Head afterwards towards Luxemburg. Just past Namur leave the E411 and take the N4 expressway via Bastogne (aire) and Martelange (all petrolstations on the left side of the road are on Luxemburg and a lot cheaper, also cigarettes and booze). Via Arlon (aire) you head for Luxembovurg (town) and farther on Trier (Germany) on the Mosel river.
Practically every village along the Mosel has something for MH's up to Koblenz . You certainly will not be dispapointed about the Moselvalley

we did the black forest along with the low countries. Really nice time and lots to see.
Well worth the visit and found it most welcoming. Like said, download the stellplaz for your GPS and away you go.
