Hi to all you France tourer's,
We will be traveling clockwise around Paris ( no where near Paris) sort of approximately going or heading towards Reim's - Troyes - Dijon then west towards Bourges - Tours - Le Mans - Alencon then avoiding Rouen back to Calais.
We don't do or visit major towns or cities or need restaurants etc , just plain good old aires , we prefer aires near water if possible.( rivers canals Lakes ) with views if poss .
All personal recommendations considered.
Thanks Terry

Another vote for Mutigny. Lovely views over the Champagne hills.
Southeast of Bourges is Sancoins on the bank of a disused canal. Free aire where you can get chairs out and sit on the grassy bank.
Just Southwest of Le Mans is La-Suze-sur-Sarthe. Used to be able to park overlooking the river but I think it might have changed.
Broglie, just south of Bernay has a lovely aire.
Coming north La Mailleraye-sur-Seine misses Rouen and is a cracking good aire on the river bank. So good we will be there tomorrow.
There are several of these Aires on my YouTube channel-MotorhomeMoments.

Richard.

Free aire and water eh?

East of Reims there's this lakeside spot (Lac Madine) that cost us nothing pre-season last April. Close by, behind the info building there are pitches with EHU if required, and a service point, but you pay for them. We cycled the circuit around the lake and stopped for a couple of nights - very tranquil at the time, although obviously set up as a destination for all manner of visitors in the high season. We also visited Verdun, where overnight MH parking is tolerated below the Citadel, and free.

East of Troyes, very close to one of the big lakes (but not with a view) is a free overnight parking area near Mesnil-Saint-Pere, but it has no services, so plan ahead.

South of Dijon at Seurre is an aire very close to the Saone River. Part of the novelty is watching Star Destroyer sized barges going through the lock just up the lane. There's only about a dozen slots on the aire, because the gravel parking area opposite is now barred to larger vehicles.

Closer to Dijon is another free aire in front of a community centre in the village of Marsannay-la-Cote, which is a wine-growing area. Regular buses to the city, which is very pleasant and worth a look. Don't bother trying the P&Rs as they're all height restricted. Alternatively, if it's open, there's Camping Municipale du Lac Kir just inside the city beside the river, with 'Dijon-Plage' by the lake and a pleasant open park close by. Easy cycle access to the centre beside the river. Aire type parking near the gate, or low cost pitches within. We go there quite a lot on our travels as we have a friend who lives in Dijon. However, if you go, make sure you approach it from the southwest and turn right into the entrance as there's a far too low bridge below the opposite side of the main road.

Can't help much with the rest as we tend to go further south then charge up to Honfleur or Gravelines via the massive aire at Parc Futuroscope, north of Poitiers. If audio visual spectacles float your boat it's worth a look.

On the way back you must not ignore La Mailleraye sure Seine (downstream from Rouen)! My favourite aire.
Agree it's a fab aire, and, if you need a vets for returning to the UK it's only 200 metres from the aire & only charges 15 euros for the pet passport if you provide your own wormer (y)

We couldn't get riverside at La Suze sur Sarthe when we visited in June - there was a 2 metre height barrier in place :( there was a municipal campsite directly behind it though (9 euros in high season)

Villeveque (Pays-de-Loire) not far after La Suze-sur-Sarthe (40ish miles) has a nice free aire on the side of the river, toilets there, & a restaurant next to the aire
