Looking for one now
We have just bought ourselves a 1999 Niessman Bischoff Flair Life motorhome. I think it's the 6000i or 6100i, 3800kg MAM with the 2.8l Merc engine.
We will want to insure it for myself and my wife to drive (I'm 59 she's 52). We both have clean licences, which we've held for a long time.
For the next few years we'll probably stick to travel in the UK, Scottish highlands and Ireland.
This is the first motorhome we've owned, so we have no knowledge to draw upon. Can anyone suggest a good insurer for the vehicle and also for the windscreen?
Many thanks.

Comfort Insurance would be my recommendation. Motorhome specialists and they also provide European breakdown cover at a good price.

As it's an A class. Pay attention to the windscreen cover limits as new screens can cost thousands.
Comfort is also my recommendation.

Phone the lot and see who is cheapest. Check the small print for the windscreen very carefully and check if there is still manufacturer availability. A custom RV windscreen will be very expensive. Even the manufactuer supplied one will be eye watering.

Hi.
A VERY happy old customer of COMFORT Insurance. for some years. Leaving the UK meant leaving Comfort.... Sad day.
Tea Bag

Just tried Comfort myself.
They will not quote me because it’s kept inside a locked barn. Very strange, they’ve quoted me before no problems and my friend keeps his on his driveway only half a mile away from the farm where I keep ours. He’s insured with Comfort.
I’ve only stored it there for the last 14yrs.

If it over 20 years old footman James thay don't offer no clames bonus.
But I got a good deal with them dependants on light thay offer brack down cover don't know if thay offer EU cover

I've been very happy with Scenic for over 10 years. Their AXA-backed policy has unlimited windscreen cover (and I've used it).

Everyone gets different responses depending on personal circumstances. For me CAMC was better by far and I heard from people that when the crunch comes they dont mess you about . Although I can say also with absolute certainty that NFU are also very good at paying out.

Shop around. I used Safeguard for first couple of years then switched to CaravanGuard and halved the premium whilst keeping same cover, so look at adverts and make a list of which headlines you like (eg European cover, breakdown cover, windscreen cover, hotel costs etc) and get yourself “tuned in” to what’s good for you, Get a couple of quotes and choose best value one. Keep an open mind!

NFU offer a good policy at a fair price.

Another 👍 for Comfort, we have been with them for 8/9 years now and always found them to be very good, you can also always speak to a real person over the phone if you need to discuss any changes/amendments etc.

I went though the CAMC for the first time this year - 80 pounds cheaper than Admiral who I've been with for years.

Plus one for Comfort been with them for years , very competitive on price and breakdown cover. This topic has been well covered on many threads , everyone and every van has different criteria, best advice is shop around and ensure you get what you need to suit your circumstances. 😉

SurreyNick. If staying in the UK, then NFU with unlimited screen cover. I dealt with the Louth office, as do many other MH'ers.

They don't do breakdown cover for MHs over 3.5T, so we went over to SAGA, as Comfort wanted a hefty premium because it was N+B. :whatthe:

With SAGA, we have full UK and EU cover, including breakdown and repatriation, unlimited windscreen cover, and premiums frozen for 3 x years.

The disadvantages for us with other insurers were age, weight, height, and length. :(

HTH,

Jock. :)

AIB they are brilliant easy to speak to someone when you call, great price, really helpful staff.

After all the discussions I've recently read about replacement costs of A class windscreens I thought I'd check with my insurers, CaravanGuard. All docs are online so a phone call was easier. Call was answered immediately by a very helpful lady. No limit on the cost of full replacement, just the excess, £100, to pay! So far, so excellent. Then I checked for European ins and breakdown. For an extra £127.00 I now have Fully Comp insurance and Recovery from breakdown !! Bearing in mind the 90 day limit CaravanGuard insure for 127 days per year in Europe. I'm hoping CG do other insurance, car, house etc as they seem loads cheaper than my current insurer.

You could try A Plan in Horsham. I’ve got several policies with them. I went years ago because they could mirror my Motorhome NCB onto a car. They’re very knowledgeable and go the extra mile for customers.
