I’ll be going to Spain in October and normally drive down the west coast of France as far as Biarritz and then head SE in Spain, I went the East coast route many years ago in February, not the brightest move, lot of snow French side of the mountains, Ok when we dropped down into Spain, next problem was Barcelona, ended up in the middle at 7pm, this was the days before Satnav. I took the right fork thinking it would take me away from the city, just the opposite, live and learn!. Not happy with toll roads, any suggestions. Thanks

You don't say where your crossing from, but assuming Calaise then heading to
la perhus into Spain. A route we use to take as some favorite stops along the route A71 A75 Milau viaduct. Some tolls or not along the way

Thanks for your suggestion, I would prefer to be east of Paris, I've never been on the Paris ring road when it's not been throwing it down with rain so now I try and avoid it, too much stress for me now

We useually head for Dijon then Lyon and straight down to Montpellier never been any problems.
Btw we always go this way round, if you go on the motorway it has tolls but there are normal roads following them all the way.

As chaser says that's my preferred route plenty of places to stop.
We usually take a week to drive down

Another way we have gone is Lyon it avoids Paris and it's low emission zone.
It also has plenty of places to stop

Good camp site in Lyon, open all year. Don't know of another city you can drive right through the middle without stopping.
