Hi All,

I saw a post on here in 2018 regarding someone rejecting a motorhome previously after 2 years of ownership and some of the advice was incorrect. I have just successfully rejected a motorhome which was slightly over the 2 years and thought I would post in case anyone needed help.

The motorhome was purchased through finance with Blackhorse and had several issues all repairable under warranty, however I wished to reject the motorhome and it took 8 month to get to the resolution. Most people would give up but through sheer determination I got what I wanted in the end. I had to jump through hoops, prove things I hadn't a clue about but research and keeping going paid off in the end.

The motorhome I purchased was Brand New in 2018 and was bought from Lowdhams. It had several faults over a 18 month period which included minor and major faults. Keeping a timeline is impetrative and certainly paid off with the rejection being upheld by the Financial Ombundsman.

I can go into everything if required just drop me a post back and I will explain more what the law says and how I managed to convince the FO that the items were not fit for purpose.

Wow, welcome to the forum.

What a pity your issues were not able to be solved by the dealer. Most vans (and, for that matter cars, new homes, etc.) have snagging issues which can usually be sorted out. We had a few but the dealer (Highbridge) were just superb and resolved everything. We’re still under warranty and I have every confidence and complete trust that, should anything else go wrong, It will be taken care of without a quibble.

We did the same with a caravan. Ours was under six months old and the build quality was simply shocking. The list of major faults was extensive, and a couple would have required a major rebuild. At first the cowboy dealer was O. One major fault that happened within a week of use was repaired but failed after a further week. When I refused further repairs they asked for an engineer from the manufacturer to come and inspect it. Think it shows the quality of the manufacturer that the first appointment he could make was 6 weeks away. Turns out he only lived 20 minutes from us. He didn't say much but it was pretty obvious he agreed with us.

At this point the dealer literally shut down. No response to emails, letters, or even visits to the main dealership, and, of course, no response from the manufacturer.

In the end I used legal advice from my house insurance legal cover, as the caravan was bought outright. They put a specialist solicitor onto the job who was excellent, and some five months later we got a resolution.

It was a very frustrating and worrying time. It ruined a whole season of holidaying. Again if anyone has serious issues like this do message me, I became very conversant with the Consumer Rights Act during this time.

I might need your help if I don’t get my van issue fixed.

No worries, it is sometimes worth knowing your rights first and why you would consider rejecting. Although many people say once all niggles are sorted and issues are expected with new vehicles the FO take a different stance and that is from the day of collection is should be nothing but perfect.
