We re finding our ageing kenwood stereo a bit limiting and have discovered bluetooth speakers with a phone streaming music in the house so wondering about using the same setup in the mh? One of the big benefits being that we can play our choice of radio station anywhere we can get internet.

My quandry is that our motorhome was fitted out from new with what seems quite an extensive sound system from new but technology has moved on so I'm wondering whether to go simple and put a bluetooth soundbar in or whether to go fro a bluetooth amp and use the existing speakers.

I have one of these

and 4 of these

Incidentally does anyone know what the junction boxes are for?

Thanks

Jon

Depends if you want speakers in the rear bedroom that can be switched to have another tv, or system or off even.

The "junction boxes" are filters to split and send the correct signals to the respective speakers, low's to the woofers, high's to the tweeters

If you are streaming it then Alexa makes more sense. They can play radio direct or can also be used as a bluetooth speaker as well if you are not connected

I've recently set up a Raspberry Pi4 with a HifiBerry 12s DAC and the analogue output to the line in on a Dali Katch portable bluetooth speaker. (ok I'm not using bluetooth for this setup) There's no reason this couldn't input to your existing AMP if analogue inputs are available especially if your existing sound quality from you current speaker setup is ok. The RPI4 runs Volumio - https://volumio.org/ and is connected to my MH router so I can stream radio,Spotify and Tidal etc. I also have an SSD attached to the RPi4 with my own music stored so I can play my own music ( if no wifi network is available , it creates it's own hotspot). The setup is controlled by any iOS or Android device via the Volumio app or web browser.

My camper has an external locker with a sports TV which is synced to the other two internal TV’s via a HDMI distribution unit. The Audio is also synced when required to the factory fitted internal surround sound sound and the external, waterproof sound system, all factory fitted but,

To be honest, when Lyn and I are snuggled up watching Line of Duty on the sofa, the Sony soundbar we fitted to the lounge TV is all we use

In what feels like a lifetime ago now, I had a rasp B+ with an iQaudio digiamp running Moode into a nice pair of vintage Mordant Shorts.
This was before they had Spotify (etc) integration and the mobile interface was never that good.

I also tried Volumio & rune but always went back to Moode, but once amazon alexa took over the system was taken down as mouth hole control is so easy, but maybe it's time I started looking at those options again 👍

Sorry this is off topic I guess, I started using RPi4s as Roon endpoints (via Ropieee) to feed USB DACs. Then thought I'd try and repurpose one for the MH. Volumio is my first attempt really but since I had/have a Tidal subscription, I paid for a year of Volumio and now I get Tidal Connect as well

Hi Jon

This is the little amp that we have hidden in the front cupboard, it drives the 4 speakers in the lounge but no reason why you couldn't drive your existing speakers as far as I know.

EDIT I should add that IMO the above amp may only be man enough for a bit of background music

Are you thinking about streaming as you drive rather than using the head unit? you might want to think about speaker position while you are in the front seats, a sound bar on the TV would be above your heads for listening while driving but would be great for TV and while living in the van, I would have used our sound bar for streaming in the living area but it goes up inside the cupboard with the TV so doesn't sound good.

Our HymerCar has speakers in the front and back and can also stream the music from an iPod and the internet (via the iPod) the unit also has remote control so seems more than good enough for us. The Avtex has a Avtex sound bar and can use this with the iPod via blue tooth to play or stream so I think we have all bases covered .

Hi Michael

yes I would like to be able to stream radio while driving and stationary. Good point about the soundbar as yes it would be facing the wrong way while driving thanks. Maybe I need to connect up the speakers for driving but use a sound bar for TV?

I would also like to use the radio housing for another monitor.

sorry Martin

Brain fade

I have had a busy morning though, with Dad's help sorted out my front aircon, apparently the start capacitor has gone so just need a replacement capacitor. Took the opportunity to blow at least 5 years of crud out of the condenser while I was up there

Well done Dad, I did wonder but only because that is what was blowing the fuse on my jet wash, if I had suggested that it would have been something else 😏

Just back from a windy turning wet cliff top walk👍

Weather no better still :(

We had a nice 10 days in devon but its the first non winter holiday we've had in years where we had a fleece on the whole time! Hope somewhere else will let us in shortly can't be doing with all this rain.
