You could prove it if you happened to find a bit inside the van ;)
In order to claim on someone else's insurance, ie the poly tunnel owner, you'd have to be able to prove they were negligent ... so not a chance!:(

We had to claim on our camper's insurance a few years ago when it was vandalised in Holland, about £2,500 worth of damage and other than the £150 excess it didn't cost us a bean, our premium didn't go up either.

In a situation where you have no access to screws ect .We had storm damage in southern France which damaged the roof light only .I straightened out 2 wire coat hangers into a U shape ,put 4 holes in a piece of board we found ,poked the wires through put the bunk ladder flat to the ceiling wrapped the wire around two rugs on the ladder then drove 600 miles home with less than cup full of water getting in . Where there's a will there's a way. lol.

In an emergency situation you find way to do what is required with the minimum of equipment.

A daily check to make sure there is no water ingress until it is fixed.

Still waiting for AIB to return my call - I've called them twice.

No matter what the damage or the cost it is only a motor vehicle - no one got hurt. The vehicle can be repaired.

Don't think we will insure with AIB next year though.

... but there again would anyone else actually be better at returning claims calls - esp when there's been 'one' weather event affecting shedloads of people. The trouble we had last year over a burglary. because of all the flood damage elsewhere.

And the sheer difficulty getting an insurer to understand (the Claims Inspector who saw the damage originally did, the office staff didn't) why the same garage can't repair a Fiat door on the cab and the Habitation door and it's frame. Or a specialist bike insurer whose claims dept was in Dublin why a car ONLY repairer in Alfreton (we live in Warwickshire and wanted the Triumph dealer we'd bought the bike off in Aylesbury to repair it) isn't suitable to repair a 2 week old Triumph motorbike!

Good luck!

Should your call not be to the insurace company's claims line rather than the broker?

The number I had from AIB for claims went to AIB ...... I will call the actual underwriter on Monday.

Mrs P, no idea if it's relevant but 2012 in the storms we lost 2 ridge tiles which landed on the car.

The car was written off. It was only worth £1100 and we had £400 excess. The claim was paid promptly but we were told that they couldn't claim the money back as it would've been our household insurance and you can't do that apparently.

The claim was recorded as an uninsured loss and renewals have been alot higher because of it and will be for a year or two yet:mad:

The house part we got fixed for the cost of tiles via friends.
In hindsight we wouldn't have claimed:(

Hope you get sorted soon x

AFAIK the only way the car insurer could have claimed back the cost from your house insurer is if they could prove YOU as the house insurance customer had been negligent ... if they HAD managed this your house insurance would probably have been hiked a hell of a lot - at renewal time you'd then probably have found it very difficult to get house insurance without paying a very, very, very hefty fee!

Oh Helen, Sorry to read this! Your not having much luck are you. First the door now this. I know its a fairly new MH but can you maybe try the breakers yards for write offs etc. My garden sheds are wrecked but I am glad our MH escaped.

It's only a roof light Sandra so only time and money. No one got hurt and that is all I am worried about to be honest. The door was a much easier and cheaper repair than I expected and my pride has recovered (a bit) from that!

Knowepark has ordered a new rooflight for me and once it comes in we'll take the van up and let them check over the roof and fit the light. Then claim from the insurance.

Hoping to get down to Devon for a month or longer in the Spring.

Today at approx 6.30pm I drove our van back from Bristol to West Dorset traveling along the M5 most of the way and although there were some severe gusts the van did well. Also and contrary to my usual instinct to go fast I did keep my speed down to 50-55mph

Can't remember ;)
The new roof light is £899 and fitting as the whole of the unit will have to be replaced. It's not just the "glass" but also the mechanism and the surround. I agree that less than £500 and it's not worth going through the insurance.

Household insurance doesn't cover any damage to motor vehicles even if they are in the garage.
Hi sorry to hear your bad news but it may not be as bad as you think -see link to size2 /midi heiki

easy to replace whole unit ;)

Thanks Terry, ours is the deluxe one with the lights, fly screen and blind in it though and they are not interchangeable :(

The new one is on order and they will check the roof over for damage as well so it can all go on the same insurance claim if necessary.

We brought our daughter a soft toy puffin back from our travels to The Faroes - stuffed puffin being a local gastronomic delicacy there. We had phoned her and told her they ate puffin and we were bringing her a stuffed preserved one back for her to cook, disgusted noises from her of course ......... anyway the toy got put into the top of one of my pottery vases and has remained there. Nearest thing we have to a puffin burrow.

Grandson (20 months) is crazy about penguins (and ducks) and saw the puffin, thought it was a penguin and made a bee-line for it. He realised it wasn't a pengiun and asked what it was. I said it was a puffin and he gave it a pat, took it out of the vase, cuddled it and put it back, saying "Puff-n not pen-in" He did this every morning he was here.

Oh and it has started to snow - hard.
