Stop off for new Years Eve - Western France (1 Viewer)

We have just booked ferry crossing to St Malo, arriving on the 30th December (08:15) and will be heading South to Spain.

First suggestion, can anyone recommend an night stop off (it will be New Years Eve), say 5 ish hours South from St Malo?

I was looking at Tonkas route and he stops off a Cavignac. Any other suggestions, bearing in mind it's New years eve. Oh, are aires likely to be rammed full on this night?

From here, we will be heading to Valencia / Almeria for about a month before heading back via Bilbao ferry.

Does anyone have any recommendations for site to stay on around Mojacar?

Any other tips for good sites would also be welcome!

Thanks

We always stayed at Camping Acacia which is just outside Tours, open all year.

Sadly far and few this time of year in this neck of the woods. If you do not need EHU then Saint Palais, Saint George de Diddonne are on the sea front and Mortagne sur Gironde is on the port and I believe has EHU. @Cleve could possibly advise on this one

Mortagne sur Gironde is a nice stopping place and does indeed have EHU. However, it’s quite a detour of the main road south for just a quick overnight stay .

We have used the Aires at Azay le Rideau, one of these private one's, all facilities, on the river by the chateaux. Just South of Tours.

Thanks for all the replies (please keep them coming). Mortagne sur Gironde looks like a good choice.

I can confirm that Mortagne sur Gironde HAS EHU.

I normally stop at the Aire at Vivonne, then the next day is a pretty easy drive down to Hondaribbia, Spain.

You might be out of luck finding a local restaurant that isn't fully booked for the "Reveillon".

Quick, additional question. What are your thoughts on diesel availability New years Eve / New Years day for both France and Spain?

La Rochelle is 199 miles from St Malo (say 4 hours driving) so in another half hour you could be on the Ile de Re and spend New Year's Eve by the sea. I know at least one beachside campsite aire that is open all year (Amis de la Plage at Bois Plage en Re), and the same company runs another one by the bridge at Rivedoux-Plage. Just a thought.

Verteuil Sur Charente, free aire with toilets adjacent to the park. Lovely spot, convenient for free motorway N10. EHU 2 euros for 16 amp. You have to ring the number on the wall for EHU or go to the mayors office a 5 minute walk away (before 12noon). Excellent spot on river, with really nice bars and restaurants nearby, also a Chateau.

Last I heard, (which was quite recently) the car park at Hondaribbia had regained it's 'No Overnighting ' status.
Do you know different?

We had NYE in Honfleur a few years ago and had a brilliant night.

The aire was beyond full but that's part of the fun.

I have just sent a message to Roger via Faceache to ask whether he is saying Humbug! to a sign that may be there or whether the sign has not made a reappearance.

Further to the above.
Mr Viggers has responded to a question I sent to him.

I am informed that there is NO SIGNAGE at the Marina Car Park to indicate that Motorhomes are not welcome.
So that's alright then.:xThumb:
