My brother has had the cat converter stolen off his 2002 Peugeot motorhome. The van is on his driveway and he only found out when he moved the van to get ready for a trip away. The pipes were neatly cut either side of the cat probably using a cutter like the one used for cutting copper pipes. The police said the local g.......s ( fill in the gaps) target motor homes and 4x4 cars as they can crawl underneath with no jack.
My brother has got a new cat and has welded on a bottom cover to make access harder and also welded on some steel bar onto the pipes either side of the cat so that they would have to use a hacksaw rather than a pipe cutter.
We will see how effective this will be!

New cat from Peugeot would have been £400+ but he managed to get a cheaper replacement for just over £100.
I suggested connecting the live wire from the mains to the exhaust and wait for the sparks but I not sure if that would be legal!

you get told off if you are "cleaning your shotgun" and you rush round with it in your hands to see who is rummaging around for scrap in the skip  they do not come back though;)

As far as I can tell from the photo all you would have to do is cut the stainless steel wire with a bolt cutter then proceed as before with a pipe cutter, but maybe I am missing something? They are not cheap either.

We had an attempt on our 4x4, must have bern distrubed as they only got through on side. We got it repaired and the garage welded extra welding all along the cat. They said it would make it harder to saw through. They want the platinum from them seemingly :-(

Here is a picture of what my brother has done. Boxed metal sheet around the cat and welded a steel bar onto the exhaust pipe. We will see if it works.
It is a 2012 Peugeot

Looks outstanding but what happens if the cat has to be repaired/replaced?

Worth the extra effort to get it off I would have thought?

Nothing that a welding torch would not remove, which my brother has. If the cat is faulty it will need replacing anyway, they cannot be repaired, so any exhaust specialist could do that.
I believe what happens is that organised scumbag gangs collect enough cats to fill a container then send them overseas where the scrap laws are non existant.

Over 25 year's
just let your tiers down no room to get under then.
or razed the ground under your van drive it in to a bund
that is tight up to the side of the van.
with razes slabs under neth the van make it hard work and they wont bother.
