I'm a Total Newbie!
Not strictly MH this, but could be...

I'm quite pleased with the "new" car I bought from a mate a few days ago. But when you use the windscreen wash it stinks like stagnant water.

Any tips for making it a bit nicer? Obviously replacing the bottle would do it, but I don't want that hassle. Any cleaning fluids etc? I did think about a bit of bleach but I know it can be corrosive of rubbers etc.

Any ideas?

The pumps usually just pull out and then just give it a good rinse out, could have some gel left from the screen wash.

Obviously not using it enough. :giggle: I only use neat screen wash ,no water.
If no easy access to the bottle, quite normal as they usually hide them inside the front wings, you can empty with a tube & pump it out.I'd then refill with straight screen wash.

I'd use bleach, it's a wonder cleaner. I use it for everything 😍 well nearly everything.

What do you use to sterilise your drink water??
Use that.

For the van I use a simple Jerry can and 12v submersible pump. I don't sterilize it. I just take it out the cupboard, give it a good rinse and leave it upside down to dry.

Had the same when I bought my Hyundai.
I emptied whatever it was in the bottle then stuck a garden hose in the bottom and wedged it there.
Turned on the tap just fast enough to get a steady flow in and out.
Left it like that for 24 hours.....no, we aren't on a meter and Yorkshire water lose far more due to leaks so no guilty conscience.
Drained down and put fresh fluid in then ran a pint or so through the pump and jets.
Been sweet ever since

My garage insisted on refilling a full screenwash bottle with their stuff and charging me a couple of quid for the privilege ...
Trouble is their stuff smelled vile... no doubt they had changed it... but I had to refill it again

Emptied it. Filled and emptied it twice with water and washing up liquid. Filled it again 3/4 full with more water and washing up liquid. Then went to take the dog out in the car via the road with the speed bumps to slosh it about a bit. Emptied it, and rinsed with just water. Just filled it with concentrated screen wash. Smells okay now.

I remember, in a Environmental Interventions lecture about contaminated water, a case of excess deaths via a certain water borne bacteria in truck drivers. Turns out the bugs were in the screen washer bottles and the truckers were becoming exposed when using the screen wash in their truck, causing the bacteria to be spayed into the air and into the open cab windows. Sometimes this course makes you fearful of everything. :X3:

Do you mean Milton
I’d pour hot water in the water holder from the kettle , let it overflow then put a couple of tabs in.
Use them in your MH tank to sterilise your water pipes too. Have a drive about with a couple in your water tank so it swishes about then drain it through your taps down your drain.

Mine smells of apples, bought it from Halfrauds I think.

Brought that berry smelly stuff from halfrauds and had it in the motorhome washer bottle. Lifted the bonnet to do me checks and the cheeky mice 🐭 had taken a liking to it, pesky blighters.

I'll not be buying that. Last thing I need is mice chewing wires! You're lucky they only had your bottle cap! 😲

Should have seen the shear size of the nest I found under my dash board console, all neatly chewed insulation and woven around the main wiring loom to the dash and ignition etc. I held my breath as I hoovered it out and lucky for me, no wiring had been touched, phew. Breathed a sigh of relief that night.
