Hi
Last year in the south of France our friends one night became infested with stick bugs. They found 100s in their van. We were lucky we only found around 30.

When we returned home we find a few around the door. Cleaning out our van yesterday for our winter break I found one on the floor (dead). Our friends are now in Spain and have just killed around 20.
Has anyone got any good ideas on how to get rid of them. If you are in France this year and near fruit trees be aware of this bug

Found several in my static at Thiviers South West France.. No fruit trees nearby but many other trees including the Indian bean tree..

We had some of these in our van on our last trip. We were amazed to find one last week when we put the heating on in the van. I didn't know what they were. Do they create a strong smell?:eek: We've killed one or two and haven't smelt anything.

They smell like coriander  nice, could perhaps put some in your curry for extra protein.

They only smell when you kill them. The bug come from Japan via the USA to warmer parts of Europe. You will find they only appear in the evening attracted to the light. Once in the van you have to be vigilant just in case they start to breed when it gets warmer

We encountered several last year mostly in the Dordogne, not in the van but on towels placed on our chairs outside. Several times when I filled up with Diesel I found one under the cover of the Diesel tank, I seem to remember that they were mostly Green coloured though so perhaps they were just Shield bugs.
