I have a problem on my sprinter the gear change is very stiff for all gears is there a way to lubricate the cables it does ease up slightly when warm 2003 manual box 2.2

When was the Gearbox Oil last changed?

Never as far as I know

Due a change then, also oils have moved on a lot since that Unit was New, think you'd find it would benefit from a Oil Change...

Our gear change was not bad but could be a bit notchy at times, so I drained down our gearbox and re-filled with Castrol Syntrans 75W-90 fully synthetic and the gear change is as smooth as silk now. (y)

Interesting What is your base vehicle?

Yes I think gearbox steering and Doug oils to be changed in the near future. But is there a way to lube the cables 😊👍

I would have expected the gear linkage cables to have PTFE liners, so the selector linkages on the gearbox end of the cables may be gunked up.

Although on a later model, this video is worth a watch. (y)

Might try this on my Master based Hymer...it's quite stiff first thing in the morning but goes quite limp after a few minutes.....it used to be stiff for much longer but I suppose it's an age related problem, I have a 2006 model.

Here's is a previous thread pointing to the same problem and the solution.

My 05 Master never liked going into first from cold, I changed the oil and added a couple of tubes of molyslip and it transformed the gear change, even with 100k miles on the clock.

Mine was getting worse so I moved the gaiter and pumped engine oil down both the gear change cables that were now visible. An ordinary oil can with a length of plastic tube taped on the nozzle did the trick.
Good luck 👍
