Step on our S520 has dogged out at the bottom of its travel. Looks like I could unbolt the quadrant and buy a new one or weld up the missing teeth and file them to match the others. It all hinges on cost for a new one. Has anyone had to do this or know the cost of a new part. ?

Hate to think how much they cost to make. The markup must be astronomical. You should be able to get it welded but it will destroy the galvanising so it’s going to get rusty quickly. Hamerite might work. Trouble is it all adds to the expense.

My opinion for what its worth ...
Theres a lot of teeth need redoing and i suspect to do a good repair you would need indexing equipment and the correct gear cutter...
Filing that number of teeth to the correct form would be be painstaking...
If jims link is the correct part id spend the money ..and save yourseld fome grief... unless of course you have the equipment i mentioned....

@tanex if you do decide to purchase the part I linked to, before buying, call Brownhills and ask for Daren in parts dept. to confirm the correct part, he is very helpful

have you Hymer model year, and six digit serial number to hand (on data plate)

I remember @dave newell lvs posting a good while ago that he welded one up.

Yes I did but it was on a laika, similar arrangement though. I believe it lasted about a year before it failed again. Trouble is when the teeth are worn that badly so is the rest of the mechanism, pinion, brgs etc.

Thank you for the link. Lets see how long it takes to get here. drive pinion is okay. Worn out part of quadrant is only at the end where step is extended. It would be easy to make up a quadrant using the new and the old and give the plate more width. But will I do that.. probab;y not.

as my step is now one of the few things not to have needed replacing roughly how much would a compete new step cost?

given the importance and the load it bears (well in my case anyway) after 15 years or so I would prefer to swap the whole thing

having just spent best bit of £2K changing my fridge freezer hopefully this one would be a refreshing change price wise

Well part arrived from UK Easy to install. I did note however the alloy boss on one of the motor mounts was broken so I may as well replace the motor . It looks like a window regulator motor and may be Mercedes. Does anyone know?
