Step alarm won't stop

Hi Funsters,
First time since early February and typically the gremlins have struck . The alarm for my step won't stop even though it is retracted. I have removed the fuse but no joy. Any help would be appreciated before I set off a lengthy journey on Friday.

This is a wiring diagram, probably a bad micro switch in the step.

Probably a faulty or dirt switch that pushes onto the step, similar to a car interior light switch.

Ours did the same a while back,had to take step apart and clean, which seemed to work for us.
