I’m a newbie
Hi, can anyone recommend a decent steering lock for motorhomes please? Does it need to be a specific type for insurance? Thanks in advance

I think I would be buying be ne of these, if only because of the smallness and ease of use.

If your seat swivels -have you thought about a set lock? There are various types.

Have you considered one of these. I have one, very substantial item and should be ridiculously hard to remove.

Disklock is my choice, a PIA to store but all the other types of wheel lock can be defeated by cutting the steering wheel with bolt croppers

Still using the same disklok I bought after some scrote tried to steal my car in a NCP. I came back to find the door lock forced and the steering wheel lying on the seat because the thief had snapped the steering column while trying to break the steering lock.

Who knew you could steer using a mole grip to get out of the car park and onto a recovery truck. ;)

Another stoplock pro user.
But they’re only a visual deterrent to put off casual thieves.
I’ve heard it said that a competent thief will use that lock to aid them breaking the steering lock. 🤔

Disclock - make sure you buy the right size for your vehicle as they sell different sizes.

I once drove my wife to a wedding reception at the Irish Centre in Leeds (York Road) and after drinking orange juice all night, seeing the grooms family scrapping with everyone and most others off their heads, I persuaded my wife it was time to go. We left before midnight only to find that someone had broke into my car and stole the steering wheel!
I took a screwdriver to the stereo and my wife asked me what I was doing?
I said they’d be back later to pull the stereo out as they’d nicked the facia off the front.
She then said, do you mean this? I took it off before we went inside and put it in my handbag!

I use a Stoplok on ours, mainly as a deterrent to the casual thief as the tubular style lock that's fitted to a lot of these devices is quite easily picked and won't be a problem to a serious thief.

I have one of these, the are brilliant as no drilling was required due to there being a factory drilled hole ready to attach it to. Paires with my CLutch claw and door chains that hook onto the bottom of the seat belts. stops the door opening more than an inch. i have also put a habitation door lock that i can open and lock form the inside and outside.

2 very useful threads.
I also have a cluch claw, very visible with its flashing led, and a Micky mouse steering wheel lock.(probably does little other than draw attention to fact that physical measures exist.)

Anything visual will help deter the opportunist. But will not stop the professional thief.

Best steering wheel lock isn't sold anymore used to be the digitally locked 50,000 volt taser one.
bit steep at £199 & that was over 20 years ago. Don't think they are legal now?
